Sabeel holds its west coast conference in Berkeley
By Lee Kaplan

Sabeel holds its west coast conference in Berkeley By Lee KaplanA combination of Arab petrodollars, Marxist zeal and good old-fashioned anti-Semitism were on hand at Sabeel's Ecumenical Liberation Theology conference in Berkeley last weekend, all masquerading as a “nonviolent” movement for “peace” in the Middle East. What is Sabeel? It's the PLO's answer to Christian loyalty to scripture and the land of Israel. Some of Sabeel's nonsense includes the idea that Jesus was not a Jew but a Palestinian, despite the fact even the term "Palestine" was not invented until long after Jesus's death. Sabeel acolytes claim they seek a two state solution for peace at fundraisers, the same as any other ISM group, but in private they call for a single state with the Jews under Arab rule.In 2003 I attended a national conference of the ISM at Ohio State where someone mentioned at a seminar on how to put a good face on suicide bombings that the Bible was being "reinterpreted" so it would no longer be sympathetic to the Jews. I remember laughing at the notion. But what I failed to consider was the amount of funding and tenacity of the movement to destroy Israel. Huwaida Arraf, who founded the ISM, and admits to working with Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the PFLP, was lecturing there and recruiting again for her ISM groups.

Paul LaRudee, who I got deported from Israel a little over a year ago and then went to Lebanon as a human shield for Hezbollah terrorists lectured also. Both claim they support "legitimate resistance" (translate that to "terrorism") but are now speaking for Christians in America who want Israel dismantled. Of course, there were no discussions about suicide bombings or the fact that the Arabs have fired hundreds of missiles into Israel since the forced evacuation of Jews from Gaza. In fact, this obscenity of a "Christian conference" featured groups like Alison Weir's If Americans Knew. Weir has written anti-Semitic articles for Nazi David Duke's website. Alison used to pass out literature at ISM events that claimed the Jews perpetuated the Holocaust on themselves to create Israel. Now she's trying to appear like she seeks reconciliation throughout the Church.

Naim Ateek, the religious leader of Sabeel has openly said Israel has no right to exist, and Palestine Remembered is a major sponsor of the Conference. Palestine Remembered is linked directly to Al Awda (The Return), a group whose international convention I got kicked off the UC Riverside campus, and lists all the spots where allegedly Arabs lived in 1948 that must be retaken by Palestinians in what for publicity purposes Sabeel says is supposed to be an Israeli state living side by side with a new Palestinian one. It's all, in fact, another ruse to promote anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism in US churches. If you research the speakers, they are all pan-Arabists or Marxists who have always advocated destroying Israel.

The Presbyterian Church's Synod last year rescinded a resolution to divest from Israel that had run for two years after a small band of radicals managed to get control of the Synod's board and pushed through the divestment scheme. Even though the last Synod meeting voted to end the divestment by the Church, those from the pro-divestment clique on the board were still trying to tell people that it had not been revoked when it had. The Church's leadership was doubly outraged when they learned this clique had spent $4 million dollars of the Church's money on anti-Israel literature.Attacking Israel through the US Church system has become part of the modus operandi of the International Solidarity Movement. The colleges have already proved to be a good workable venue to try and get American youth to hate Israel, a pluralistic democracy, and support a Palestinian state in its place. Of course, the Palestinian state will be just another Arab-Muslim dictatorship, a government with a lifestyle that will be anathema to these same youths if they only understood the implications. Now, the Churches are next.

The ISM tactic of trying to equate Israel with apartheid South Africa is just a scam on the American psyche and Sabeel is part of this scam.
When it comes to the sound bite driven media, Arabs running around screaming they want to kill Jews for Allah turns the American public off. Hence, the tactic, encouraged by American communists and anarchists, allied with the Arabs and Muslims, of trying to appeal to an American audience, and primarily a young naive one at that, is to elicit false sympathy by claiming the Palestinians are suffering worse than the blacks did in South Africa. This appeals to some well-meaning people who do not understand the revolutionary "code speak" used by the ISM (terrorism=legitimate resistance, security fence=apartheid wall) who might think they are supporting a humanist campaign. They are in fact, supporting a totalitarian campaign of anti-Semitism.The rest of this church-oriented movement is driven by replacement theology, the notion that the Christian church is replacing the Jews in the Holy Land contrary to what the Bible says. Arab Christian leaders try to claim Jesus was not a Jew but a Palestinian (Arafat did so too).

The foundation for this thinking is grounded in anti-Semitism pure and simple. Not all of the Presbyterian Church was willing to abandon this anti-Israel platform or give up on divestment. St. John the Worker's Church in Berkeley has become a regular meeting place for the ISM and its communist and anarchist acolytes to rail against Israel's existence in a subtle way: they too can claim they are seeking a nonviolent end to the conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis because that sells to mainstream audiences; but they are, in fact, making war on the Jews instead by advocating starving them financially to weaken the Jewish state and allow its takeover in phases. Sabeel is organized as an arm of the ISM in particular for this purpose. Little known in Jerusalem or Israel proper, Sabeel, led by the Palestinian Christian reverend Naim Ateek, promotes anti-Israel activity and trying to get American churches to oppose Israel as an oppressor, a violator of human rights. It should be noted that the PFLP, the second largest group in the umbrella of the PLO is made up of Christian communist Arabs who are more interested in Arab nationalism than Islamic dominion over the world.

The PFLP is a Marxist group so has held appeal and alliance with European and American communists also. It was no different in Berkeley where the crowd of ex-60’s Berkeley radicals, many in their 70’s and 80’s made up most of the crowd, mixed with younger generation Arabs and radical socialists. The theme was nonviolence but was again code speak; this was just a more subtle form of violence, the violence of the Big Lie and demonizing the Jew once again. Three speakers especially stood out: Craig and Cindi Corrie, and Anna Baltzer. The Corries are the parents of Rachel Corrie, the girl killed by the Israeli D-9 bulldozer in Rafah on the Gaza-Egypt border. The ISM has taken her death and triedto present this girl as a peace activist brutally murdered by the IDF. She was, in fact, a self-avowed anarchist from Evergreen College in Washington State where she also was a friend to ISM activist Joseph Smith who later changed his name to Joseph Carr. Carr stated about Rachel that "her death was well worth the price of the revolution." In other words, her dying for the anarchists in the ISM had immeasurable value. Carr faked photos through window shop of Rachel's demise and even got Reuters to run them, then later retract them. First, let me emphasize I sympathize with the Corries’ loss. Losing a child must be horrible. But in this case their child worked to kill other children in Israel, not make peace. I have the IDF army video footage of when she was killed, soon to be on You Tube and she was not protecting a house. She was in a trench. That footage will be posted soon with an explanation. Rachel sent an email home to her mom two weeks before she died in which she explained how she had helped bring the dead body of a terrorist out of a weapons smuggling tunnel, an indication she was in a tunnel at the behest of the terrorists. The fact that she was in such a tunnel at all suggests she was working with the Palestinians who smuggle weapons through these tunnels. Joseph Carr, on radio in Santa Criuz, Californian, claimed he was running alongside the D-9 telling the driver to stop when Rachel was killed, yet he is nowhere visible on the video.I asked one of the organizers of the Conference if I could interview Craig and Rachel Corrie about this information. They declined, allegedly saying that I had written "hurtful things" about them in the past. I merely told the truth about them and here I go again: There is something repulsive about the Corries as parents.

Instead of telling other parents not to let their college-aged and young adult children to go off and be fodder for terrorists like Rachel was, they embraced the ISM that she died because of. Was it for money from the PLO? Was it to find justification or meaning in her death? We'll never know. But the Corries epitomize the idea of the "useful idiot" if they indeed believe all the information about their anarchist daughter. Cindy Corrie told the audience that day how Rachel told her she was a human shield for Palestinian “municipal water workers digging wells." Supposedly, the IDF was shooting at these civil employees for no reason at all and the ISM had to stand in front of them to protect them. Gaza gets its water from Israel. Had these diggers been "municipal water workers," their activities would have been coordinated with the Ministry of the Interior. The IDF would not shoot at them unless they were fired upon first. What else does one dig into the ground besides "water wells"? One digs tunnels. And why does one dig tunnels in Gaza? To smuggle weapons and rockets to kill Jews and other Israelis inside Israel. Rachel already admitted going into such tunnels to help terrorists. Those "municipal water workers" were, in fact, Palestinian terrorists digging tunnels to smuggle more weapons. I'm not surprised the Corries did not want to be interviewed. It might have upset the sinecure they now have resulting from the death of their own child. If I sound harsh, it's for good reason. Children in Sderot have been killed by weapons smuggled through those tunnels and the Corries, who should have insisted their daughter playing anarchist revolutionary come home, only encouraged her and now they are encouraging the children of others on behalf of Sabeel, in a church in Berkeley no less. Shame on them...I'd never seen Anna Baltzer, another speaker, in action though I'd read about her. At the Sabeel Conference at St. John the Workers Church in Berkeley Ms. Baltzer gave a presentation in the main hall.Baltzer is drop dead gorgeous and looks like a movie star, but she is also proof that beauty is only skin deep. Her presentation on behalf of the International Women's Peace Service was so dishonest and deliberately manipulative of an audience that it reveals an ugliness below the surface appearance of this woman. Innuendos, half-truths, manipulated photos and constant misrepresentations were the order of the day for her presentation, and most annoying was her voicing "I am a Jewish-American" to lend credence to her pro-PLO propaganda spiel; here was a Jewish woman content to lie by omitting facts and giving credence to hearsay to aid in the dispossession of and encourage attacks on Jews in Israel.First, let me say the International Women's Peace Service is a communist organization that grew out of the communist-inspired International Women's League for Peace and Freedom in the 1920s and 30's. Back here in California, the IWPS tours schools, damning Israel in the eyes of schoolchildren just like Baltzer does and is led by another Jewess-communist named Kate Raphael. It's not particularly Jewish to be a communist whack job, but if one is, then it's useful to cite one's ancestry of Judaism that was long abandoned for the god of Marxism to attack the Jews in Israel and those who support them. Israel was founded and built by more than one Marxist who grew up during the Cold War, and the Soviet Union once supported the creation of the Jewish state because of the socialist nature of so many Zionist groups. The Torah teaches that every Jew is responsible for every other Jew, a form of socialism that has a beneficial group-think on the Jewish community. But what frequently happens is it gets perverted among secular Jews who decide that Marxism is the way to go. They become about as Jewish as a ham sandwich, but nevertheless use their Jewish ancestry to lend credibility to attacking Jewish interests like Israel as they fall into the communist party platform that is anti-Israel. As the Soviet Union later aligned with the Arabs during the Cold War, Marxist groups like the IWPS became increasingly "anti-Zionist" (anti-Jew). Writer Paul Bogdaner has posited that "Martin Luther’s program of terrorizing Jews originated with a Jewish convert, Johannes Pfefferkorn; and that the myth of the Jewish world-conspiracy, which culminated in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, was assiduously promoted by a Russian Jewish author, Jacob Brafmann. We suspected that as the Pfefferkorns and the Brafmanns departed from the stage, the Finkelsteins and the Chomskys made their entrance."As for the "peace" theme of the IWPS, Writer Bruce Bawer has explained that "use of the word 'peace' to legitimize totalitarianism is an old Communist tradition. In August 1939, when the Nazis and Soviets signed their non-aggression pact, the same Western Stalinists who had been calling for war against Germany did an about-face and began to praise peace. (After Hitler invaded Russia, the Stalinists reversed themselves again, demanding that the West help Stalin crush the Third Reich.) The peace talk, in short, was really about sympathizing with Communism, not peace. And it continued after the war, when Stalin’s Western supporters whitewashed his monstrous regime and denounced anti-Communists as warmongering crypto-fascists. 'Peace conferences' and 'friendship committees' drew hordes of liberal dupes, who didn’t grasp that their new 'friends' were not ordinary Russians but the jailers of ordinary Russians—and that the committees were about not 'friendship' but deception, exploitation, and espionage."Baltzer immediately claimed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was not about religion, but land. In other words, the Arabs, particularly the Muslims, have nothing against Jews per se, but “their land is being stolen by them.” This was the first lie. The settlements that Baltzer showed photos of were built on public Jordanian land after 1967. It's one of the deceptive lies of the ISM (as a front for the PLO) to claim that Jews just marched in and grabbed private Palestinian homes and property. It's always fascinated me how in America we accept the right of anyone who can legally purchase his own property to live where he pleases. This was the part of the basis of our Civil Rights Movement. But when the Arabs claim that land is only for Arabs or Muslims, the radical left rushes in to agree with them.In any event, Baltzer pointed to a settlement and said, "Only Jews can live there." This was the second lie of her presentation and it was deliberate, a variation on the Blood Libel stories against Jews. What Baltzer should have said was only Israeli citizens can live there. Christians, Druze, Muslims with Israeli citizenship can live in those communities. Were the Palestinian Authority to arrest terrorists and stop killing Israelis, mainly Jews, those communities might then become open to all Palestinian citizens in a viable Palestinian state. But for now, they are under the control of Israel for security reasons, and rightly so.Baltzer commented about the land around the settlement in the photo and claimed it belonged to Palestinians. This was the third lie. The land belonged to the settlement. But to these ISM creeps, all land, trees, produce (olives) and just about anything a Palestinian tells them is Palestinian and doesn’t belong to Jews; it all belongs to Palestinians.Baltzer accurately explained the difference between economic settlers and the religious ones. Economic settlers moved to the West Bank for affordable housing whereas the religious came to resettle the Biblical land of Israel. But in true radical socialist propagandistic form, Baltzer suggested that the economic settlers were only the oppressed in Israel; that is, the poor, the black Jews from Ethiopia, etc. In fact, Israel is so tiny that this is not true. Many people elect to live in the West Bank or east Jerusalem who are not impoverished but want a nicer home. Efrat is like Mission Viejo in California and only a 30 minute drive from Jerusalem (if you don't get shot by Arab terrorists on the way). Baltzer then discussed the Security Fence (that the ISM loves to call the "Apartheid Wall"). Of course she doesn't mention the Fence became necessary because the Palestinian Authority refused to arrest or prosecute terrorists who murder Jews(and still never has) despite their agreement to do so in the Oslo Accords. There hasn't been a bus bombing in Israel for two years since the Fence went up. The answer is simple; stop killing Israelis and the Fence will come down because it's mostly portable anyway. Baltzer relied on lying by omission like this throughout the presentation. By the way, Baltzer kept reciting the trope of "occupation." Would she object to a Security Fence if it was on the 1949 Green Line? Probably so, because she wanted people to think she considers only the West Bank and Gaza "occupied" when in fact she means all of Israel.I had to laugh when Baltzer showed a photograph of two cars with different colored license plates. She explained that somehow this reflected an apartheid situationbecause the different colored plates for Israeli nationals (not just Jews) and Palestinian Arabs were "visible from far away to the checkpoints." In fact, it was the PA that demanded the different colored license plates, not the Israeli government, because it was demanded as a matter of sovereignty. But her audience would never know this.Baltzer showed a staged photograph of a "bypass road" with another highway excavation site in the foreground. The manipulation of images was obvious. She was honest only at one point admitting Palestinians who are not Israelis can use the bypass roads after completing a security background check; the roads were created to stop Jews from being murdered on the highways. Somehow this was a terrible thing to her.But Baltzer's theatrics really shone in discussing the checkpoints. I've been to Israel and checkpoints rarely take more than ten minutes unless a terrorist attack is being thwarted. Baltzer showed a line of Palestinian workers waiting to enter Israel. You can see similar lines at our own airports. She implied this was part of the great suffering of the Palestinians due to those nasty Israelis having checkpoints to stop terrorists who kill Jew and Arab alike. She got the audience of Christian anti-Semites, dried up 60's Berkeley radicals and the uninformed to emit a gasp when she told them a tale of a pregnant Palestinian woman who was taken by ambulance to one of the checkpoints that are normally open to traffic from 7 am to 7 pm. According to Baltzer, they arrived at the checkpoint before 7 am and the Israeli soldiers told the woman's family that despite her giving birth they could not let her through until 7 am. "They kept saying, 'We are just following orders. Just following orders,'" she announced, in a deliberate reference to Nazi army apologists over the Holocaust. She went on to say the woman gave birth to twins in the ambulance, and after more waiting for hours, was finally allowed to proceed at 7 am, but both preemies died before she reached the hospital. After her speech, I approached Baltzer. "Can you give me the name, the checkpoint, the date and tell me what the IDF investigation of the incident showed?" I asked her. "I didn't know the IDF investigates such things," she replied. "It's hard to imagine nobody complained, and the Arabs would never miss a sound bite like Israeli soldiers letting two babies die in the press, so there would have been an investigation," I told her.Pressing on, I asked Baltzer for the woman's name. "Lamis," she said. But she could not give me a last name. "The village?" I pressed on. "Deir Balut," she said, but she could not provide a date. "It's in my book," she said, conveniently on sale in the church's vestibule. She grabbed a copy of Witness in Palestine, her "book" chronicling Israeli abuses and "apartheid." "I can't find the date, but I think it was the day before the date of this chapter," she said, being specific. "Were you there when this happened? Did you interview any of the soldiers?" I asked. "No" she replied."So in other words somebody whose last name you don't know or remember told you this happened and it's listed as fact in your book?" She drifted away into the crowd.I should point out the last photo in her manipulated scenes at this event. Baltzer displayed a photo of a Palestinian teenager on a hill throwing a rock at some Israeli police officers at the bottom of the hill who were peacefully standing next to their vehicles. "I don't want to seem to be promoting violence," she said. "But this boy is in his village on his land and the Israeli police have no right to be there." She continued, "If someone broke into your home and invaded it, wouldn't you pick up a lamp and throw it at them to protect your home?" In other scenes where she claimed they showed Palestinians "nonviolently" protesting the "occupation," the Hamas flag was clearly visible in the rear. Hamas in its charter openly advocates the annihilation of Israel's Jews.So much for the theme of nonviolence at this Sabeel conference in Berkeley. Baltzer's remarks were little more than an excuse, a justification, for terrorism while trying to lie about phony Israeli atrocities. It was manipulated tripe, but the audience still gave her a standing ovation. It was sick to see and hear in a House of Worship, of all places. ISM video: http://www.youtube.com/v/VFwxIaqoMpU George Mason University to host next ISM ConferenceBy Lee Kaplan and StoptheISM.com Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the International Solidarity Movement is scheduling another yearly conference at a major American university to recruit and train still more activists to interfere with the Israeli army in the West Bank and to spread anti-Israel propaganda at other US campuses nationwide. This event, as with past ones, should be seen as another Jew-hate fest that is being allowed at a major American university campus with behind-the-scenes support enabling it to take place. Previous campus conferences were listed as national conferences for the Palestine Solidarity Movement, the name ISM uses for its umbrella organizations found mainly on college campuses in the United States. However, due to bad press and exposure, as well as the recent takeover in Gaza by Hamas that the ISM is currently organizing aid for overseas, the Movement is now dubbing this new event the 6th Annual Organizers’ Conference of the Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and scheduling it for September 7th-10th at George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia, right near our nation’s capitol. “Occupation,” of course, refers to all of Israel, according to the leadership of this campaign, not just the West Bank and Gaza. The event will be sponsored by the campus chapter of the Students for Justice in Palestine at George Mason U, an ISM-affiliated group, and is scheduled “to network, strategize, and decide upon the priorities for the upcoming year, and elect a new Steering Committee to guide the work of the coalition.” Of interest is that Al Awda, the Palestine Right to Return Coalition, is not listed yet as one of the sponsoring organizations as in past years. This is likely because that group’s national conference was recently canceled at UC Riverside as reported here at Front Page Magazine after avowed support for terrorism and links to the American Nazi party were shown to the administration. Al Awda may still sign on later, though, because the campaign’s steering committee contains Al Awda founder Mazin Qumsiyeh and the same movement strategy to plan work in the United States to try and convince America that Israel is an apartheid state, to further promote “the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions work” against the Jewish state, and to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the “al-Nakba,” or what the Arabs call “the catastrophe” of the founding of Israel by the UN in 1948. A draft agenda is included that will encourage attendees to lobby on nearby Capitol Hill. The US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, based near our Capitol was created last year by Huwaida Arraf, one of the original founders of the ISM, who has openly admitted her group works with known terrorist groups such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the PFLP. The campaign has since spent time lobbying on Capitol Hill as well as organizing anti-Israel activities nationwide on US campuses. The website for the new organization was originally registered to a Nadil Ghaith in the United Arab Emirates, however, despite this and the organization’s strident attempts at promoting a boycott against Israel and Jewish groups as specified by the Arab League boycott, the organization is not registered under federal guidelines as an agent for a foreign entity. It thus comes as no surprise that this conference is being hosted by George Mason U since they have just opened a satellite campus also in the United Arab Emirates. Of interest also is that there is a Suleiman Abu Ghaith, who is one of Al Qaeda’s key spokesmen. While no direct links to Nadil Ghatih can be easily proven, Arab clan names would indicate some familial clan contacts between these two men. A potential link between the ISM and Al Qaeda is not that far fetched, and Hamas is known to be allied now with Al Qaeda in Gaza. Of further interest, Suleiman Abu Ghaith was once in Iranian custody but is now free. One has to seriously wonder how far back the campaigning and lobbying of the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation may stretch, even to Iran that has a stake in keeping the Israeli/ Palestinian dispute roiling as a means to destabilize American presence in the Middle East, or to al Qaeda that has the same goals. These conferences do nothing to promote peace in the Israeli/Palestine conflict because they promote a one-sided agenda of Israel’s destruction and how to economically cripple Jewish-Americans and their businesses. Just as with Georgetown last year, George Mason U.’s satellite UAE campus, funded by a Gulf Sheik, certainly explains the motivations for allowing such an event on the Virginia campus despite the track recordsof the previous conferences. George Mason University’s administrators should be ashamed for allowing this event to be scheduled. It’s not too late for people to write or call the President of George Mason University, Alan G. Merten, and voice their objections, but it will be hard to out trump a new satellite campus in the UAE. A better bet would be to contact Virginia Governor Jim Kaine, who is above Merten, and object to another Jew-hate fest being held on a campus in his state that will only extend the Middle East conflict, as well as contacting the University’s Board of Visitors (Regents).
Stop the ISM's Lee Kaplan can be heard every Tuesday evening on the Jim Kirkwood Show at www.k-talk.com from 8-10 pm pacific time to discuss Homeland Security issues and the War on Terror. Listeners can call in with questions (phone 801 254-5855). WELCOME TO STOP THE ISM
We set up this website specifically to combat the International Solidarity Movement on American college campuses, in our trade unions and churches. The ISM is not one single entity, but an umbrella organization of communists, anarchists and social misfits working in conjunction with the PLO and Islamic fascist countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

We are still working on some bugs to this website, so please bear with us. However, if you click on the tabs above you can learn about the ISM and why we are working to have it shut down in the USA for violating the Patriot Act and other anti-terrorism laws. To date, Stop the ISM has managed to get over two hundred ISM activists deported from Israel and even gotten the Israeli government to declare the ISM a terrorist supporting group. New articles can be found on the left margin of this page, or in the "Information" section you can click on above.

Please peruse this site. You can just scroll down at left and read our newest exposes on ISM members. If you'd like to contact us with information: info@StoptheISM.com .
