US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Wednesday if the international community considers additional sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program Russia would be on board. I'm very pleased about how supportive the Russians have been in what has become a united international effort," Clinton said in an interview on ABC television's "Good Morning America" while visiting Moscow.

"We remain committed to preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear weapons power. Everybody hopes to succeed, but we're also going to continue to look at the potential of sanctions if we're not successful," Clinton said.

"I believe if sanctions become necessary we will have support from Russia," she said.

Earlier this month at a meeting in Geneva with major powers, Iran agreed to allow UN atomic agency inspectors into a newly revealed nuclear site.

Comment: I posted this piece to demonstrate the gamesmanship being played out on the international stage. First, the headline is incorrect-Russia said yesterday just the opposite. Second, Obama et al have just been rebuked by most of the EU-even their Arab friends have called them weak and have stated their disapproval. So, what to do? State to the public that you have brokered a deal with Russia-we all know without Russia on board sanctions will fail. Russia needs to become a player again in the ME-do you think they will do anything that helps the USA? Remember, all politics are local!
