PA still teaches kids that all of Israel is "occupied"

Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik

"Allah willing, the day will come when we'll return to Lod
and all the areas they [Israel] have occupied."
[PA TV (Fatah), Sept. 22, 2009]

Wallaa in RamallahPA TV continues to teach Palestinian children that all of Israel is "occupied Palestine." Despite continued pledges to change this message and to recognize Israel and its right to exist, the PA has not followed through. Last month, the PA TV host Wallaa expressed the above wish at an outdoor broadcast of the weekly children's program The Best Home.

To see how PA TV refers to Lod as "occupied", click here.

The following is the transcript:

Child: "I'm from Palestine."
Host: "From where in Palestine? We're all from Palestine."
Child: "I'm from Lod [Israeli city]."
Host: "Oh, Lod is a very, very beautiful city. Anyone who goes there is so lucky! Do you really go in and out of Lod?" [from the PA to Israel]
Child: "But they [Israelis] have occupied it."
Host: "You mean you are from Lod, but you live here [in Ramallah]. Never mind, my dear. Allah willing, the day will come when we will return to Lod and to all the areas they have occupied."
[PA TV (Fatah), Sept. 22, 2009]

PA's world without Israel
The Palestinian Authority makes no attempt to educate its people towards peace and coexistence with Israel. On the contrary, from every possible platform it repeatedly rejects Israel's right to exist, presents the conflict as a religious battle for Islam, depicts the establishment of Israel as an act of imperialism, and perpetuates a picture of the Middle East, both verbally and visually, in which Israel does not exist at all. Israel's destruction is said to be both inevitable and a Palestinian obligation.

The following description of Israel's founding in a Palestinian schoolbook represents the dominant dogma about Israel:

"Palestine’s war ended with a catastrophe that is unprecedented in history, when the Zionist gangs stole Palestine … and established the State of Israel."
[Arabic Language, Analysis, Literature and Criticism, grade 12, p. 104]

This official PA map of "Palestine,” depicting Palestinian rule over all of Israel, was used in an official PA TV public service ad that ran daily for 3 months, Oct. – Dec. 2007. Similar maps presenting all of Israel as "Palestine" appear in Palestinian schoolbooks and are shown regularly on PATV.
Objective: Israel’s destruction
The PA promises its people that in the future, the State of Israel will be completely erased and replaced by a State of Palestine. A Fatah member of Palestinian parliament, Najat Abu Bakr, told PA TV in 2008 that the PA’s public position is the old “stages plan”: i.e., to proclaim that what the Palestinians seek is the West Bank and Gaza Strip, while in fact the goal is all of Israel: “It doesn’t mean that we don’t want the 1948 borders, but in our current political program we say we want a state on the 1967 borders.”

The newest PA schoolbooks teach: "Palestine will be liberated by its men, its women, its young ones and its elderly." [Arabic Language and the Science of Language, grade 12, p. 44]

This music video playing on PA TV (Fatah) from 2007 – 2009 promises the liberation of “Palestine”, specifying numerous Israeli cities:

"We will liberate the Land of the religions … Palestine is Arab in history and identity… From Jerusalem and Acre, from Haifa and Jericho and Gaza and Ramallah, from Bethlehem and Jaffa, Beer Sheba and Ramle, and from Nablus to the Galilee, from Tiberias to Hebron.” (2007 – 2009)

Hafez Barghouti, editor of official PA daily, excerpts from editorial:
"Egyptian Minister Farouk Hosni lost the contest for the position of Director-General of UNESCO. His defeat was to be expected, following the Israeli campaign against him for having stated in the Egyptian parliament that he would burn any Israeli book that he found in an Egyptian library. However, this statement, which has been used against him as an anti-Semitic statement, is not the direct cause of his defeat. Had he not made this statement, there would have been an Israeli campaign against him for not having visited Israel throughout his entire tenure as Egyptian Minister of Culture. Passing through Israel is a condition for receiving "quality certification" to enter international circles. Without it, the sword of [the accusation of] of anti-Semitism would have hung over him…

PA daily: Israel is a passing, transient spirit

Yihya Rabah, daily columnist in official PA newspaper
"The Palestinians left their homeland [during the 1948 war] and did not return… They left, thinking that their absence would not last long… By now it has reached sixty one years… The State of Israel cannot bear the contradiction, being a country that lives like a demon that takes possession of another body. The State of Israel lives within the Palestinian body, in Palestinian land and Palestinian cities… and despite all the aggression, and despite the whole ugly deception, Israel… looks like a demon that enters a person's body, causing him suffering and depriving him of sleep and torturing him. But it remains… a passing, transient spirit, which dwells in a body in an abnormal manner, and one day it will leave him, as soon as the sick body is restored to physical and spiritual health… All of Palestine, from the [Jordan] river to the [Mediterranean] sea, from Rosh ha-Nikra to Rafiah, is the homeland of the absent Palestinian."

Canada Guy,
Not sure where you receive your data but this is not accurate. The "binational" idea has been around for years and has no possibility of becoming a reality. It is however banted about in University classes and in some coffee houses. All the best-doc

Don,

I wasn't suggesting it was a popular idea. Even within the Palestinians, while more people support it now than in the past, it's still a minority opinion.

My point was that if demographics continue, and if Israel continues to expand the settlements, there's essentially no other option. Michael B. Oren, Ambassador to the US, and the previous Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have both said the same (I quote them in my article.)

Canada Guy,
First I appreciate the rationale dialogue-you should see what I receive. Second, Mr. Olmert is a political animal who has been replaced and I am being polite. Amb. Orens, a very good man, excellent author re: the '67 war but is still finding his "diplomatic legs." I have posted a number of demographic studies, reports that refute their claims to population development. The "media speech" is simply not true-I refer you to Ettinger's et al work-all the best-d
