The Obama administration is looking for ways to build up "moderate elements" within the Lebanese Hezbollah guerrilla movement and to diminish the influence of hard-liners, a top White House official said on Tuesday.ohn Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, met with Lebanese leaders during a recent visit.

"Hezbollah is a very interesting organization," Brennan told a Washington conference, citing its evolution from "purely a terrorist organization" to a militia to an organization that now has members within the parliament and the cabinet.

"There are certainly the elements of Hezbollah that are truly a concern to us what they're doing. And what we need to do is to find ways to diminish their influence within the organization and to try to build up the more moderate elements," Brennan said.

He did not spell out how Washington hoped to promote "moderate elements" given that the organization is branded a "foreign terrorist organization" by the United States.

"We don't deal with them," he acknowledged.

Last month, the United States and Israel accused Syria of arming Hezbollah with increasingly powerful missiles and weapons technology. Brennan said he raised those concerns during his recent visit to the region.

Comment:
This clearly demonstrates one of several things regarding the Obama Administration's understanding of ME events.people, circumstances and politics. There are no "moderates" in Hizzbollah-to even suggest this is a lie and they know it. Any "moderate" in Lebanon has no power to unseat or even challenge the government run by Hizzbollah-to say otherwise is a lie. They surely know all of this and for political reasons are willing to engage or disengage, whatever the case may be, from placing pressure upon Hizzbollah directly or indirectly via Syria and Iran. The end result of any of these is the throwing us in Israel to the wolves. Those of you sitting comfortably in your homes/offices some 5-10,000 miles away do not have the threat of rockets falling on your heads, hearing the warning sirens in the middle of the night or while walking on a beach. Why should you care about us in the first place? Your response to this question speaks volumes-thus, do not dare to criticize us for doing what we have to do to survive!
