The Ebola virus is said to be self-contained because it is so lethal, it kills every human in its path faster than its own ability to reproduce and spread. Other viruses, like AIDS, mutate constantly so while science was able to subdue and partially control their spread, it is impossible to eliminate them completely. It took the ingenuity, persistence, wisdom and research, predominantly done by Jews, to eradicate other diseases from the world. Today we face a disease as deadly as the most lethal virus. When science was in the early stages of discovering HIV and AIDS, no one was willing to discuss this illness publicly and fear was a silencing factor. I was a senior at UCLA, and a courageous professor retiring that quarter taught the first class on this subject. It was in an auditorium holding some 500 students, as media covered the first lecture.
Today, there is a new AIDS, the spread of Islam, but no one is willing to speak out about its deadly potential. In that very same auditorium, twenty years later, another professor stood on the stage and spoke about Islam’s threat to our society. Attempts to silence Professor Daniel Pipes’ lecture did not fare well, and over fifty protestors were escorted out. Unstoppable, they continued their attempt to drown out the proceedings using drums, loud speakers and other noisy distractions.
Some years have passed and today I attended a presentation by a local TV news director. During Q&A a lady from the audience, her head covered, asked why Muslims do not receive equal time on TV. It was more than a question, it was a demand, almost a threat. A remark that would once have sounded strange and out of place was now accepted as legitimate.
To most who seek politically correctness, Muslims deserve equal airtime; it is their right and our national obligation. I believe it is time to stand up and declare “enough with this nonsense.” We must send a message, loud and clear: This is the United States of America, a country and culture deeply rooted in Judeo-Christian ethics. All Americans are guaranteed Freedom of Religion, but any attempt to overthrow the basic tenants of American life or philosophy will be met with the fiercest resistance.
Our currency reads, IN GOD WE TRUST, our Pledge of Allegiance reiterates our belief we are ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. Indeed, all religions may be practiced freely and without fear, but none will be allowed to overturn our system, the very essence of America’s being.
No one has the right to superimpose a different religion, and anyone wishing to do so is free to leave. Muslims are welcome to emigrate to the Islamic Republic of Iran or to the holy soil of Saudi Arabia. Jews have their Jewish Homeland. But all are welcome to stay and respect the dictates of American life.
Somehow, somewhere, at some time, we missed the turning point, straying off our path as the United States of America. It is not our obligation to kneel before an Islamic monarch or ruler. With between four to seven million Muslims living in the USA, out of over 300 million, our country is NOT close to being a Muslim country, nor should it strive to be.
Sharia Law is not the law of this land, and Americans are not interested in changing their laws. Those wishing to practice Sharia law may only do so if it does not interfere with our laws. If they cannot accept this reality, they are free to give up the right to live as an American in this country.
We do not truly grasp the nature of the threat as yet, although we know it is dangerous. The issue is not Freedom of Religion, which is abundantly evident. It is about America’s right to continue its own survival as our homeland. I am a Jew, with a family spanning a hundred years in the USA, four generations and hundreds of relatives. I am proud to be an American and have always known and understood it is first and foremost a Christian country. America is a place that offers me the opportunity to worship as I wish and always have done so. America is the place I call home. America is a place Jews, Christians, atheists, agnostics, Mormons, Buddhists, Hindus and so many more call home as well, co-existing peacefully in an atmosphere of respect and freedom.
If Islam is allowed to overtake the body through massive doses of political correctness, its level of lethality will spread. If it is like Ebola, we will all soon be dead. If like AIDS, we will have to learn to live with a “chronic condition” of fear and subjugation. Yet if we find the courage to stand up and fight, then we might, just might, be able to stop its spread – before the American system becomes terminal.
In the series “Postcards from Israel,” Ari Bussel and Norma Zager invite readers throughout the world to join them as they present reports from Israel as seen by two sets of eyes: Bussel’s on the ground, Zager’s counter-point from home. Israel and the United States are inter-related - the two countries we hold dearest to our hearts - and so is this “point - counter-point” presentation that has, since 2008, become part of our lives.
