J Street, the left-leaning organization referred to by the Israeli government as “a unique problem” and considered “Pro-Ishmael instead of pro-Israel,” is launching its grassroots initiative on February 4, 2009. Executive Director Jeremy Ben-Ami will be speaking and broadcasting from Steinhardt Hall, the Hillel building at the University of Pennsylvania campus.
Nearly a third of the J Street Philly Host Committee members are part of the “Jewish Fast for Gaza,” an organization which excoriates Israel for defending itself against Gazan terrorism. One member compared Israel’s treatment of Gaza with the genocide in Sudan. Another Host Committee member is involved with ICAHD, a radical group which interferes with Israeli efforts to stop terrorism and which advocates Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel.
If the local people associated with J Street have such extreme positions against Israel, what do you think college students will learn from J Street? Do we want Jewish college students to associate Hillel with J STREET?
We at Z STREET know that Israel supporters who truly want peace and not simply a Palestinian State immediately (which is all J Street really wants) reject this association.
