Given the nature of the current political atmosphere in Washington, it is no surprise that domestic issues such as the economy, jobs, education and health care dominate media coverage of the Congress
and the White House. While these legislative initiatives are important, the Obama administration and Congress are also putting a great deal of effort into adopting a foreign policy
that will severely undermine the United States and eliminate our sovereignty. The purpose of this series of articles is to bring attention to the vast array of international treaties on which the White House seeks ratification, and the immense danger that these treaties pose to American sovereignty and security. While many Americans are deeply concerned about the loss of jobs, their personal savings and investments and their current health care plan, we must also be just as nervous about the current Administration's efforts to give away our national sovereignty. The current administration, paired with its Congressional allies, is fully determined to submit basic American powers and rights to an illegitimate and non-transparent international force. It seems that the White House and Congressional leaders have forgotten that the very founding of the new American nation was an assertion of an American identity separate and independent from that of Great Britain and Europe. Since our founding, the United States has declined to recognize any legal or political authority superior to our own.
However, during the past year, the administration has done all it can to appease and entertain the international system’s attempt to surrender our national sovereignty to an unelected and inherently undemocratic international regime. The President has allowed our very own Constitution to become entangled in the tentacles of international law through his favorable views on the International Criminal Court (ICC), The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and The Law of The Sea Treaty (LOST). These international treaties are just a sample of the numerous international agreements that the White House and Democratic Congress wish for the United States to ratify. Through ratification our legal rights, our national security, our right to raise our children and our Constitution will be overruled by an unelected group of international bureaucrats who hold deep-seated anti-American beliefs.
As a presidential candidate, Sen. Obama declared himself to be a "citizen of the world" in Germany in 2008. Over the duration of his first year in office we have come to realize that Mr. Obama believes that the idea of American exceptionalism and sovereignty is out of date. He also believes that it was not President Bush who hindered an agenda of global cooperation and transnationalism but rather it is the concept of American sovereignty that is at fault. The Obama Administration has subscribed to the notion that America must first surrender our sovereignty and submit to a supranational system if we hope to lead with any sense of legitimacy. President Obama fails to realize that he is essentially demoting the Constitution by binding it to international law.
It is our duty as Americans to protect our Constitution, and our national sovereignty from any threat, both foreign and domestic. If the White House, Congressional allies and transnational comrades have their way, our Constitution will become a memory. We will become one step closer to selling our democratic soul to the unelected, non-democratic heads of these various international regimes.
The Obama administration and its Congressional allies are dissatisfied with many of the laws that the United States Congress has passed and those it has refused to pass. They are now looking to foreign authorities to impose their desires on the United States. They made this clear to us in December 2009 at the International Environmental Conference in Copenhagen. In Copenhagen, we witnessed President Obama and Speaker Pelosi seek an international treaty that would impose their desire of a cap-and-trade system on Americans because they were unable to garner the support needed for a domestic version of cap-and-trade. It is evident that this administration is seeking a higher legal and governance authority in the international community. Americans will be forced to answer to an unelected authority that is now higher than our own Constitution and government should the Administration have its way and the United States Senate ratifies these international treaties. We will most certainly be under a regime that is not, "by the people, for the people" and of the American people.
It is becoming clear that Mr. Obama will start with treaties designed to achieve his vision of a world free of nuclear weapons through the ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and through the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with the Russian Federation. A world free of nuclear weapons is just the beginning. Mr. Obama may also oversee the ratification of the Law of The Sea Treaty, which establishes guidelines for nations' use of the world's oceans and would monitor the use of military vessels on the world's oceans.
The Obama administration has systematically weakened the power and security of the United States by releasing terror interrogation memos, importing terrorists to the United States, banning useful interrogation practices and closing terror prisons, and this is only the beginning. Mr. Obama also seeks the same global accolades that President Clinton so desperately sought, leading him to establish a much more favorable view towards the International Criminal Court. He may very much attempt to have the United States re-sign the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court after the upcoming review of the ICC scheduled for this spring. President Clinton signed the Rome Statute in December 2000 but never submitted it to the Senate for ratification as he properly understood that the United States Senate and the American people were fully opposed to a treaty that would allow for American service members and American political leaders to be dragged in front of a foreign court without the protection of any of their constitutional rights afforded to them. In 2003, President Bush removed the United States from the ICC because the Court claimed universal jurisdiction over all individuals, even those from nations that did not ratify the treaty and because the Court jeopardized elected U.S officials and members of the Armed Forces by claiming prosecutorial powers over them.
Finally, the Obama White House is preparing to go to war with America's women and families. The White House continues to seek the ratification of The Convention on the Rights of the Child and The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. The CEDAW treaty is essentially the failed Equal Rights amendment on steroids. The treaty provides its enforcement committee, which is composed of unelected non-transparent bureaucrats, with the power to delve into internal domestic issues, such as abortion, mothers staying home to raise their children, and sex education - issues Americans regard to be under the jurisdiction of our elected state and federal officials. Many in the United States regard the CRC and CEDAW treaties as global tools that could easily harm and set back women, children and the American family. The United States Senate has rightly refused to ratify these treaties in the past. However, this administration will use all of its political capital to guarantee the ratification of these treaties.
Mr. Obama has assembled throughout the past year a team of transnationalists in Washington with the explicit desire of selling out America’s sovereignty for favorable headlines and praise from abroad. Mr. Obama and his comrades demonstrated their belief that American power is evil and unjust and his countless apologies for what he describes as American transgressions during the Bush Presidency are only further evidence of this belief. While President Obama may feel this way, it is our duty as Americans to protect and defend our sovereign rights. We must pay special attention to the White House's efforts to trade American sovereignty for global acclaim. We cannot allow Mr. Obama to make Sen. Kerry's "global test" standard practice in American society.
While we must be vigilant in keeping watch on Mr. Obama's domestic legislative goals we must also carefully monitor his intent to receive Senate approval of international treaties that will further bind the United States to the will of the international community. The ratification of these treaties will serve as a means of fulfilling the President's visions of global cooperation and global dependence, but certainly not America’s sovereignty.
Over the next few months you can expect to see this series address the numerous threats that our sovereignty currently faces. We will discuss issues including environmental sovereignty through the Copenhagen Climate Conference and the upcoming climate conference in Mexico City. We will also address the threats to our social and cultural sovereignty through The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and The Convention on the Rights of The Child. Finally, we will confront the Administration’s efforts to jeopardize our national security through The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, The Non Proliferation Treaty, The Law of The Sea Treaty, and The Ottawa Treaty on banning land mines, and Convention on Cluster Munitions.
