More Condescension And Crocodile Tears From The Ground Zero Mosque Imam

Joseph Klein

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the spiritual head of the Ground Zero mosque known as Cordoba House, is continuing to manipulate the pliable mainstream media to serve his deceptive ends.

Appearing on CBS’ “60 Minutes” last Sunday, Rauf tried to put a happy face on his towering Islamic mega-mosque/community center:

It’s the right thing to do. Our community wants it. And now America needs it. And the Muslim world needs it.

Rauf is right when he says that the ”Muslim world needs” his Cordoba House to be built right in the shadow of Ground Zero - for its own self-glorification. It would serve as what the imam once called an ”icon” to make the whole Muslim world proud. However, the majority of the New York City community does not want this monument to Islamic victory built so close to Ground Zero. Nor does America need it. Opponents of the location of the Cordoba House are not the ones who need a lesson in religious tolerance. Rauf and his co-believers in the supremacy of sharia (Islamic law) are the ones lacking in mutual tolerance and respect for others.

In short, Iman Rauf, we do not need your condescension or your Ground Zero mosque.

Pam Geller, whose blog “Atlas Shrugs” continues to expose Imam Rauf’s duplicity, said it best when she was interviewed on the same “60 Minutes” show:

You don’t build a 15-story mega mosque at Ground Zero and say that’s it’s healing. Don’t spit in my face and tell me it’s raining.

Why won’t Imam Rauf appear on Fox News shows like “the O’Reilly Factor” rather than just on lame-stream outlets such as CBS and CNN? Because he knows that he will have to deal with embarrassing questions. For example, Rauf might have been asked whether he knew about the 9/11 Truther Faiz Khan’s belief that 9/11 was an inside job, when he allowed Khan to conduct prayer services at least twice at the site of the Ground Zero mosque. Or Rauf might have been asked to defend his claim that sharia is consistent with the U.S. Constitution when sharia prohibits speech deemed offensive to Islam – a direct contradiction with our First Amendment’s protection of freedom of expression. And so on.

In fact, we saw the kind of in-your-face, truth-to-power journalism on “The Factor” last night that “60 Minutes” used to be known for. A Fox News producer caught up with Faiz Khan and asked him some pointed questions about his association with Imam Rauf, to which Khan mumbled some replies that were designed to give his associate Imam Rauf some cover.

Instead, in his ”60 Minutes” interview Imam Rauf was given the opportunity to feign heart-felt sympathies for the loved ones of those who perished on 9/11 during his “60 Minutes” interview:

I pray for the souls of your lost loved ones. If 9/11 happens there again, I want to be the first to die. Muslims want to stand right there to say that we are here.

Imam Rauf – stop your crocodile tears and sickening hypocrisy. Don’t wait for another 9/11 to happen. Show some decency now by heeding the pleas of most of the 9/11 families and MOVE YOUR MOSQUE NOW.
