Op-Ed: Will Iran Bomb the Jewish Devil?

In 2007, French President Jacques Chirac suggested that an Iranian nuclear weapon wouldn’t have an offensive use. “Where will it drop it, this bomb?”, Chirac mused. “On Israel?”.

Giulio Meotti - The writer, an Italian journalist with Il Foglio, writes a weekly column for Arutz Sheva. He is the author of the book "A New Shoah", that researched the personal stories of Israel's terror victims, published by Encounter. His writing has appeared in publications, such as the Wall Street Journal, Frontpage and Commentary.

Iran has mastered the fuel enrichment stage of its nuclear program and has proven its ability to enrich uranium to as high as 20 percent.

Assessments are that if it so decides, it would take Iran just a few months for it to enrich a sufficient quantity of uranium to over the 90% that would be required for one nuclear device.

In 2007, French President Jacques Chirac suggested that an Iranian nuclear weapon wouldn’t have an offensive use. “Where will it drop it, this bomb?”, Chirac mused. “On Israel?”. The answer lies in David Horowitz’s latest and beautiful book, “A Point in Time” (Regnery), the last in a trilogy of books on mortality that Horowitz has published in recent years.

Mr. Horowitz is one of the most important US activists and journalists, a unique Jewish intellectual who was one of the founders of the New Left in the 1960s before becoming disillusioned and turning to Conservatism.

“Jew hatred exists in countries without us, like Malaysia and Japan, and Poland after its Jewish population was destroyed”, Horowitz writes in his book. “It is a venom that is in some ways absolutely unique. Belief in the conspiracy of the Jews puts a comforting order into the world, and feeds the illusion that a salvation awaits, if the devil can be removed”.

Will Iran use the Islamic bomb to remove the Jewish Devil? A recent study by Michael Eisenstadt, a former military analyst with the U.S. Defense Department, and Mehdi Khalaji, an Iranian-born specialist on Shi’a religious law, has been published under a provocative title: “Nuclear Fatwa”. (http://www.voltairenet.org/IMG/pdf/Nuclear_Fatwa.pdf)

The two authors analize the religious teachings of the Iranian rulers about the possible use of a nuclear bomb against Israel.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, prior to his death, approved a fatwa that authorizes the destruction of a mosque and the killing of muslims with WMD if it is in the vital interests of the regime. Khomeini wrote that the Jews were perverting Islam and thus deserving of “divine retribution”. He regarded the Jews as an embodiment of filth and the contaminating source of ritual impurity - which adds another religious justification to the Muslims to rid themselves of the Jews and their state.

Khomeini put it this way: “We do not worship Iran, we worship Allah. For patriotism is another name for paganism. I say let this land (Iran) burn. I say let this land go up in smoke, provided Islam emerges triumphant in the rest of the world”.

Former Iranian president and Ayatollah, Hashemi Rafsanjani, also justified the use of nuclear weapons against the Jews: “If a day comes when the world of Islam is duly equipped with the arms Israel has in possession, the strategy of colonialism would face a stalemate because application of an atomic bomb would not leave anything in Israel but the same thing would just produce damages in the Muslim world”.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s mentor, Ayatollah Mohammad Taghi Mesbah Yazdi, justified the use of atomic bombs against Israel and his leading disciple, Mohsen Gharavian, released a fatwa sanctioning the use of nuclear weapons: “For the first time that the use of nuclear weapons may not constitute a problem, according to Sharia”.

Atomic devastation is one of the signs of messianic redemption: the goal is to set the stage for the Mahdi, the Shiite messiah, or “vanished Imam”; in order to bring that about, Iran must hasten the end-of-time vision in which the Mahdi will appear.

Mohammad Hassan Rahimian, representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, explained: “The Jew” – not the Zionist, note, but the Jew – “is the most obstinate enemy of the devout. And the main war will determine the destiny of mankind. . . . The reappearance of the Twelfth Imam will lead to a war between Israel and the Shia”.

However, despite the evidence of Iranian madness and willingness to justify the use of nuclear bombs against Israel, the “experts” are repeating that the Iranians are pragmatic and they will never strike the Jews.

But aren’t the same experts who were arong about Iran’s revolution, about Saddam not invading Iran, about the 1990s peace process, about the Islamists’ rise in Turkey and late about the Egyptian revolution?

To destroy the Jewish people, Hitler needed to burn the world. All that is needed today is to burn a territory smaller than Vermont.

What will be left of Israel in case the Shia priests launch a nuclear bomb on the coastal plain, where more than 70% of its population - one-third of all world Jews - lives?

Israel’s ports, airports and industries are all there, and from 600 feet in the air you see it all, from Ashkelon in the south to the Haifa Bay in the north.

The first Gulf War reminded even the most wishful thinkers that in an age of nerve gas, missiles and atomic bombs, Israel, with its compact population and tiny land area, is particularly vulnerable to extinction.

Just as Hitler sought to “liberate” humanity by murdering the Jews, so the Ayatollahs believe they can “liberate” humanity by eradicating Israel.

To destroy the Jewish people, Hitler needed to burn the world. All that is needed today is to burn a territory smaller than Vermont. While the Islamic world could sacrifice hundreds of thousands of “martyrs” in an Israeli retaliatory strike without disappearing – so goes Teheran’s fatwa – Israel would be history after the first bomb.

For the Islamic fanatics the martyrs are an affordable price to pay in order to remove the Jewish Devil.

Israel should trust her enemies’ mettlesome rants more than the futile experts’ opinion. Iran has the motivation to destroy Israel, and if it is allowed to gain nuclear weapons it will not need an excuse to do so.

It’s a double motivation: messianic Shi’ite and expansionist-imperial - a winning combination.

In that mindset, the Jew Devils must all suffer a violent death, down to the last one.
