President Bush has arrived in Israel

GS Don Morris, Ph.D.

We have the local television station turned on and have watched the arrival of President Bush. One of the intriguing aspects of local television is that we truly get to view the entire process. I have many disagreements with Mr. Bush-however, it is these moments that allow me to be proud of being an American. This early ceremony was incredibly well done. The pomp was actually inspiring, the dignity of human life was demonstrated and kind words were exchange. This one has come to expect. what I found particularly interesting was the body language between Mr. Bush and ALL of Israel's leaders, political and religious. There is a genuine affection between President Bush and the Israelis. There was even some playfulness observed. I suspect that our Arab neighbors were most upset and even incredibly envious of the relationships that exist between Americans and Israelis. We can talk of policy, treaties and rights and wrongs-at the end of the day, how comfortable one is with the other generally dictates outcomes. I am happy to report we have a distinct advantage and my heart is joyful. I will write of any other developments today-tomorrow I fly back to the states and will miss the remainder of the President's trip. What he says and how he says it tomorrow will set the stage for the deliberations in the coming months.stage
