IDF Gaza Operation

The IDF operation in Gaza is being conducted according to plan. Hamas and its terror infrastructure have been struck a hard blow – hundreds of terrorists have been killed and hundreds of targets hit: arms caches, command posts, facilities for the development and production of weapons, and tunnels used for smuggling. The IDF is also working to gain control of the areas from which rockets are being launched against the citizens of Israel. class="fullpost"> 2.
The Hamas leaders are in hiding, and care only about themselves. They are hiding in tunnels, in mosques and even in hospitals (in Shifa Hospital in particular), cynically using the civilian population as a human shield. The Hamas military arm has suffered a heavy blow, but its members continue to fight and to fire rockets at Israeli population centers.

3.
The operation has revealed the scope of Hamas's military strength, developed with the help of Iran, having taken advantage of the period of calm to upgrade its terror capabilities.

4.
Parallel to the military operation, Israel is conducting an ongoing dialogue with the international community. Israel is making it clear to its friends that the security situation in the south must change significantly and in the long term. Hamas's growing military force must be halted, including its ability to smuggle weaponry into the Gaza Strip. The situation cannot be allowed to erupt anew in a few weeks or months, with the Hamas once again taking advantage of a period of quiet to enhance and extend its terror capabilities to an ever wider portion of the Israeli population.

5.
Preventing smuggling will also halt Iran's efforts to insinuate itself into our region, sowing destruction and disseminating hatred and terror.

6.
Israel is fighting Hamas, not the Palestinian population. The casualties incurred among uninvolved Palestinians are the direct result of the cynical Hamas policy of using them as a human shield by placing its bases, command posts and arms caches in the heart of population centers as well as in religious, educational and public institutions. The IDF is acting with care while waging war against Hamas, warning the people with flyers, telephone calls and other methods.

7.
Since the beginning of the operation in Gaza, Israel has acted to facilitate the entry of all possible humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. To this end, Israel is working in close and continuous cooperation with the international aid organizations. To date, over 450 trucks have entered Gaza from Israel, carrying necessary food, medicines equipment, ambulances and more.

Questions and answers:

1.
Why are members of the international press not permitted into Gaza, despite the Supreme Court ruling?
The volatile security and operational conditions in areas of military activity and at the border crossings between Israel and the Gaza Strip do not permit the entry of reporters at this stage. (The Supreme Court ruling was made prior to the ground operation, when circumstances were different.)

2.
Does the continuous launching of missiles at Israel indicate the failure of the operation?
From the beginning of the operation, Israel has made it clear that its aim is to change the long-term security situation in the south. It has also clarified that Hamas will do all that it can to continue firing at Israeli civilian targets during the operation. The continued launching of rockets actually emphasizes that it is necessary for Israel to continue its operation against the Hamas terrorist infrastructure.
