According to Carl in Jerusalem, Israeli television is reporting that Fatah, the moderate Palestinians with whom we can deal and who sincerely want peace with Israel, has taken responsibility for this jihad terror attack.. "Two Israelis killed in shooting attack on Jordan Valley Road," from the Jerusalem Post, March 15 (thanks to Carl In Jerusalem):

Two Israelis were killed after shots were fired at the car they were riding in near Masua on the Jordan Valley Road on Sunday evening.

According to preliminary assessments the two were the victims of a terror attack.

Magen David Adom chief Eli Bin said that at approximately 8:30 p.m. a caller alerted the medical staff to the scene.

Rescue teams attempted to resuscitate the two but were forced to pronounce them dead.

According to reports, after shots were fired at the car, the driver lost control over the vehicle and the car overturned.

Police and IDF troops were searching the area for the shooters but there were no arrests made.

The IDF sealed off the area as security forces launched widespread searches for the gunmen.

Military sources said the attack could have been an attempt by terrorist groups to thwart a prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas.

Security forces were first alerted to the attack at approximately 8:10 p.m., when a gunman or gunmen opened fire from short range at the police car.

Emergency responders first believed they were on the scene of a serious accident, but soon realized terrorism was involved when gunshot wounds were discovered on the victims' bodies.

One policeman was declared dead immediately, while paramedics battled to save the second one's life without success.

A police mobile forensics unit was sent to the scene late on Sunday as security forces attempted to determine what occurred.

Israel Police Insp.-Gen. David Cohen was also expected to visit the site of the attack.
