1. Ahmadinejad meets with Swiss counterpart; Switzerland ready to facilitate talks between Iran and U.S. Switzerland’s ambassador in Tehran Livia Leu Agosti, said her country was ready to facilitate talks between Iran and the U.S. According to Agosti, “mixed signals” from the two sides are normal after three decades of frozen ties thus “any rapprochement will take time… If the two sides wish it, we would be ready to facilitate any further dialogue.”

Iranian president travels to Switzerland to attend "Durban 2"

Ahmadinejad before leaving for Durban 2: "Wars, unjust relations, hatred and terrorism are rooted in a notion whose flag-bearer in the world is the Zionist party and school of thought" – Addressing the 14th gathering of police commanders, the Iranian president said: "Zionists impose their will for looting nations on the world by controlling the world's power centers… Zionists are controlling the behavior of the western governments through propaganda and
psychological warfare.” According to
Ahmadinejad, Iran’s development and progress
is like a moving “train with no brakes and reverse gear.”



3. Head of Judiciary receives numerous lawsuits filed by "victims of the recent Gaza war;” Iran to host conference (April 21-22) to discuss ways to secure the arrest and prosecution of 25 Israeli leaders and military officials and their prosecution – Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor General Saeed Mortazavi has announced that the head of the Judiciary, Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, has received numerous lawsuits filed by “the victims of the recent Gaza war.” According to Shahroudi, some non-governmental organizations have also prepared reports on the "Zionist regime’s crimes in Gaza.” He also said that Iran was set to host a conference, from April 21 to 22, to discuss ways to "secure the arrest and prosecution of Zionist regime leaders and military officials for war crimes and acts of genocide committed in the Gaza war". Mortazavi added that more than 200 prominent figures, including prosecutors and judges from the Islamic world, lawyers from other justice-seeking countries, and Red Cross officials, had expressed interest in attending the conference. Mortazavi noted that Iran had wired a request to Interpol for the arrest of 25 Israeli officials. He also said that the presence of a number of U.S. and European prosecutors general at the conference was a sign of their willingness to try the Israeli officials.



4. Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee member says measures taken by Danish group are fueling misunderstanding between Muslims and European states – Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee member Kazem Jalali warned in a meeting with former Danish parliamentarians and diplomats in Tehran that measures being taken by Danish groups were fueling misunderstanding between Muslims and the European countries. Jalali called on the Danish government to put an end to these actions.

5. Senior Iranian Navy commander: "The Iranian Navy has the ability to launch the most rapid and crushing strike on the enemies" – The commander of Iran's First Naval Zone, Fariborz Qaderpanah, has hailed the close cooperation and coordination between the naval forces of the Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps' (IRGC). He also revealed that the navy had deployed the required weapons and equipment in various parts of the Persian Gulf and that these were ready for use in case of emergencies.

6. Iranian oil minister rejects new deal with UAE company Crescent on gas export price – According to Iran Oil Minister Gholam Hussein Nozari, “As long as Iran’s national interests are not provided for in the agreement, no gas will be handed to the UAE-based Crescent company… To meet the objective, the gas exported to Crescent must have a real price and the company has not yet made a new offer.”

Iraq replaces UAE as leading destination for Iranian non-oil exports – Iran’s Customs Administration Statistics Office chief Hossein Kakhki has announced that in the previous calendar year (March 2008 to March 2009), more than 13 percent of Iran's non-oil exports, worth $2.38 billion, went to Iraq. The UAE became the second-largest importer of Iranian goods, while China ranked third. Kakhki also said that Iran's non-oil exports, including gas condensates, had increased by more than 8 percent, to $23 billion. Despite the general increase in the country's non-oil exports, Iran saw a plunge in its saffron exports last year.



8. Tehran Municipality study: Residents of capital waste some 20 million hours in traffic jams each day – Tehran has the worst traffic in Iran: Based on a study conducted by transportation experts at the Tehran Municipality, traffic jams in the Iranian capital cost some 13 million Tehran residents around 20 million hours per day. Tehran’s deputy mayor for transportation and traffic affairs said, "There's a combination of factors, like the amount of people and the amount of roadway to be considered in the matter. The demand-supply relationship in Tehran is falling apart. The capital is experiencing a lot more demand than there is supply."

9. Baha’i-minority student Minoo Shahriyari expelled from Semnan University – Minoo Shahriyari, a student of economics at Semnan State University, was expelled from the institute March 1, 2009, based on her religious beliefs. Her expulsion was exclusively based on the fact that she is a member of the Baha’i minority. Shahriyari described her ordeal as follows: “Yesterday, my wish was to be admitted to university. Today, I was expelled from the university, and I may never be able to study at a university. Today, however, I have another wish. Today, in every corner of the world, the scourge of injustice has scarred millions of oppressed souls, and has raised their cries of pain. My hope is that first, every Iranian man and woman will condemn any injustice, and then, that they bravely refuse to become tools for carrying out unjust orders.”



10. Urgent appeal by the Baha’is of Shiraz – "It is the urgent hope of the detainees’ families that the ongoing atrocities against the Baha’i are stopped, and that their loved ones, detained solely because of their beliefs, are released.”



11. Delara's execution postponed - According to the Committee of Human Rights Reporters of Iran, Delara Darabi's attorney has confirmed that: "Due to the refusal of the victim's family to attend the execution by hanging, and because Iranian law requires that the verdict be carried out in the presence of the family, the execution has been postponed for now. However, the victim’s family has not changed its demand for the execution.”
