Ahmadinejad: Iran to Continue Proactive Policy

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced here on Monday that he would continue a proactive policy in his second term in office.

"Proactive presence in the international arena is a national duty. It is not possible to build Iran without a strong presence in the international arena," Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony to mark the official start of his second term in office. Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution formally endorsed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for a second term as Iran's president in a special ceremony held today.

Ahmadinejad further underlined that the Iranian nation should have an active participation in the management of the world affairs, and added, "The era when a number of bullying powers dictated their rules and attitudes to the (other) nations is over now."

Elsewhere, President Ahmadinejad lambasted interference by certain foreign states in Iran's internal affairs during the June 12 presidential election, and urged them to avoid meddling in the other countries' domestic affairs.

The president also reiterated that the Iranian nation supports justice-based dialogue and logic, and warned, "This glorious nation will not tolerate the dishonesty and selfishness of certain states."

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly condemned and cautioned certain western states, particularly Britain, about their remarks on Iran's internal affairs following the June 12 presidential election.

After President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected as the next president of the country with over 62% percent of the votes cast in Iran's 10th presidential election, supporters of his main rival Mir Hossein Mousavi - who rejected the results - took to the streets of Tehran and other cities in daily rallies.

Once calm was restored in the country, Iran presented documents proving West's interference in Tehran's affairs and its role in stoking the unrests.
