From Ruth SKing
DEAR E-PALS:
Forgive me if I bow out of all those e-mails and columns detailing Israel's admittedly impressive scientific, cultural, environmental, economic and social institutions. Well it's nice to know but frankly my dears, I don't give a damn.
The Israel at 62 that I celebrate the Israel Defense Force its navy's vessels part the waters with steel hulls; its Air-Force fighter jets scream across the skies and dazzle in their aerial maneuvers; the army where children serve with love and patriotism and a bible.
The IDF is what protects all those above mentioned and heralded institutions. I celebrate all the Russian "refusenik" immigrants to Israel who stood up to their Soviet oppressors and now contribute to all those aforementioned institutions. Among them, Natan Scharansky and the venerable Ida Nudel are shining stars. They and so many withstood the brutality of the gulags with the words "Next Year in Jerusalem" in their daily prayers.
I celebrate Israeli friends like Ambassador Yoram Ettinger who never relents in his narrative of the real history of Palestine and Jewish historical, legal and strategic claims. I celebrate Professor Steve Plaut who continues to "out" treasonous faculty and their evil message. I celebrate Professor Moshe Sharon who warned so early and often of the Arab/Moslem faith driven jihad against every single Jew in Palestine.
I celebrate the journalists Moshe Dann, Naomi Ragen, Evelyn Gordon, Sarah Honig and Caroline Glick for every single word they write. If I omit anyone it is not to slight them. Every word written in defense of Israel's rights is a gem and a gift.
The Israel that I celebrate is the Israel of the towns and cities of Judea and Samaria where the defiance and courage of its citizens present a real obstacle to an invasion and destruction of those heralded institutions . I celebrate the mothers of Judea and Samaria whose Sabbath candles are the real light unto the nations from Israel to the world.
I particularly celebrate the citizens of Hebron, betrayed by previous governments. Hebron is the cradle of the Jewish faith. It is there that the unbreakable chain was forged....a chain whose links have made the Jewish people survive millennia of persecution and genocide. May they thrive and prosper. If we abandon Hebron the link will be broken forever.
Happy Birthday Israel ...my destiny and that of my progeny depends on your strength and determination and inspiration and is threatened by reckless concessions.
