Senator Kerry pushes US-Muslim nation exchanges

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US Senator John Kerry appealed Tuesday for cementing US ties with the Muslim world with a two-way exchange of professionals like teachers, city planners, and public health workers.

Kerry, who chairs the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, introduced a bill calling for a three-year pilot program to draw such workers from 4-7 Muslim-majority countries to be picked by the US State Department. "This legislation is designed to help build professional capacity, strengthen civil society, and improve ties between the United States and Muslim-majority countries," he said in a statement.

Fellows would be 21-40 years old and could also come from civil society, including journalists, leaders of religious-based organizations, or employees of nonprofit organizations, Kerry's office said in a statement.

Kerry said he was modeling his plan on the academic exchanges pioneered by the late US senator William Fullbright after World War II.

Guest Comment: Shocking beyond belief that our govt would work against the concerns and position of US citizens in building the Gr Zero mosque to the point of financing the imam's fund raising trip to the Mid East.

Another shocker: Senator Kerry introduced an immigration bill to bring muslim workers to the US from Muslim countries.

Why from Muslim countries? Why at at time of such high unemployment? If needed, we should take qualified workers from all countries if we are in short supply, not just Muslim countries. How much more complicit can the Obama Adminsitration be in fortifying the presence of Islam in the U.S.? We must clean house in November, lest we lose our Judeo-Christian heritage and identity, for that is the goal of Islam. Aggie
