TEL AVIV (Ma'an) -- An Israeli news site quoted official sources saying that Turkey has been brokering a limited truce between Palestinian factions in Gaza and Israel, in a bid to put an end to recent border escalations. Israeli news website Inyan Merkazi said the Turkish prime minister himself was heading the negotiations, adding that a meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Gaza resistance leaders and Israeli officials was held on Saturday.

The site said officials were expecting the talks to conclude the recent escalation in border violence, since an Israeli air strike on 16 March killed two Hamas fighters. After a retaliatory barrage of 50 projectiles three days later, which was claimed by Hamas, Israel's military bombarded the coastal enclave.

In an intensive series of air strikes and artillery shelling, Israeli forces killed 12 Gaza residents, including six civilians.

The Turkish-negotiated truce is expected to mirror the conditions of the pre-Gaza war ceasefire conditions negotiated by Egypt.

Comment: Do not get drawn hook and sinker into this possibility. There are very substantial political reasons why Turkey, now an Islamist nation for all practical purposes, wants to appear as a "peace broker"-do you know why?
