Ambiguity Is Israel's downfall

Nurit Greenger

The winds or "peace" talks resumption are blowing from Jerusalem.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Israel Radio on Monday, that, "a peace agreement with the Palestinians does not stand in contradiction with Israel’s security needs," (http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/barak-mideast-peace-does-not-go-against-israel-s-security-interests-1.347615), making it clear that immediate action needed to be taken to advance "peace" efforts…and "Nothing of value was ever achieved without taking risks," the controversial Defense Minister said, adding that "Israel could not afford to continue down the "slippery slope" of its own international isolation. If the Defense Minister of Israel does not know, or he deliberately ignoring that the country he had been assigned to defend must retain control of the Jordan Valley and all of the strategic high grounds of Judea and Samaria and ONLY then, such a 'peace agreement' would not be a disaster for Israel's security, then Defense is not his job.

Sadly, Israel is the only one to blame for its international isolation and the only one that has caused this phenomenon. More encouraging, Israel is the only that can end this international isolation. How? If and when Israel stands up for itself, ends its ambiguous foreign policy and it launches a political offense on the US and the EU, the UN, the Arabs and all other entities that have made promises to the Jewish State, NONE they have delivered or kept, rather ignored and reneged.

Since the Oslo Accords Israel's policy had been of 'we have, kind of, given up!' One Israeli government after another have been making the same mistakes, ignoring the fact that neither Arafat or his disciple Abbas meant or mean peace. Arafat blatantly violated the Oslo Accords and Abbas is blatantly violating the Road Map. And the international community stood by the terrorist Arafat just as they stand by the terrorist and Holocaust denier Abbas, making the victim Israel the guilty party.

Arafat made it clear, over and over again, in speeches and broadcasts in Arabic, that he intended to destroy Israel. The Palestinian Authority (PA), over which Abbas presides, does the very same; they incite for hate and the murder of Jews and they hold to Arafat's mantra to destroy Israel. Arafat made it clear that not only he was not fighting terrorism as agreed, but actively supporting it, and so does Abbas, yet, Israel chose and chooses to ignore this reality.

Since the Oslo Accords Israel has been operating on the basis of a pathological delusion and destructing ambiguity that continued concessions would cause her enemies to stop wanting to destroy her. We all know the opposite is true.

Israel chose to remain the useful idiot of the entire world to its own dreadful determent. The Jewish State made concessions and succumbed to pressure, that many times crossed the red line and totally ignored international laws. While Israel abided and abides by International Law, the USA and the EU, the UN and the Arabs do not, and many time they conveniently ignore, or forget to apply it. Israel sacrificed itself to the International community. Only when Israel ends being the entire world, self declared, sacrificial lamb it will also end its isolation! Only when Israel begins to stand up for itself then, SLOWLY, Israel will gain respect, thus exist its international isolation.

For centuries, the Diaspora Jews mentality was to not make the hosting country's people angry. I call it, the "shah-Shtil" mentality. Jews, battered by antisemitism, begin to believe the lies that are told about them and then try to end the conflict by "self-reformation". In psychological terms, this is ‘grandiose’ behavior, a delusion that Jews have the power to change the behavior of the antisemites.

The Arabs hate the Jews and, short or a miracle, nothing will change these sentiments. However, like the "self reform" Jews, Israel, too, does not have the power to change the attitude of the Arab world that hates her, especially by "self-reforming", which, in this context, means making concessions to the Arabs. However, unlike the "self reform" Jews in 19th-century Russia, Israel has the power to prevent her enemies from harming its people.

Unfortunately such power cannot be exercised when the primary consideration of Israel is "don’t make them angry," or "how will it look to the world?"

It is necessary for Israel to get out of the Ghetto mentality for once and for all and act as other nations act, directly in support of the state and its people interests and the national goals.

Everyone loves a winner, whether it is the favorite, or the underdog. An honest assertion of power in pursuit of national goals and less apologies will win Israel more friends and overwhelming respect.

Governing the Jewish State of Israel with ambiguity, schizophrenia and self delusion only creates confusion and tells the entire world of weak leadership or NO leadership!

Do you get it Ehud Barak?! Do you get it the State of Israel?
