Wafa Sultan: Point of View‏

The Afghani Muslims' reaction to the burning of the Koran by Pastor Terry Jones
------------------------------------------------------------

WAFA SULTAN

I vividly recall our teachers in elementary school in Syria reciting the verse that states: I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger tips off them. We, as young children, were as impressionable and frenzied to the point that we were ready to blow ourselves up, so that we could kill those who didn’t believe in Allah and Mohammed.

Islamists don’t need an excuse to kill and fulfill their Allah’s demands. The Quran is crammed with enough verses that incite in order to attain their “holy” task and cause mayhem.
Burning any sacred book for its own sake is insensitive. Yet, Pastor Terry Jones’ act to burn a Quran, is a reaction marked by deep frustration at Muslims’ attempt to destroy our civilization.

The real problem lies with our leaders’ craven capitulation to Islam. One example demonstrated by Senator Lindsey Graham, http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/under-god/post/terry-jones-vs-free-speech/2011/04/04/AF7DgOdC_blog.html where he publicly denounced the non-violent act of Pastor Jones, and suggested a revision of our First Amendment law, while almost ignoring the Afghan Muslims’ violence which ended with brutal murders of innocent non Muslims serving there.

Free speech is not part of Islamic culture or theology. Muslims are raised to suppress any hunger to question and discouraged from civil debate. Sura101 verse 5 states: O ye who believe! Ask not questions about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble.

The violent Islamist response in Afghanistan is another test of our resilience. Do we have the cohesiveness and strength shown after 9/11 to preserve our liberty and freedom of expression, against attempts by Muslims to destroy those values? I hope so. We should intensify the pressure on the Muslim clerics and leaders of Muslim organizations in the United States who refuse to admit there is a problem, by pointing at the consequences of Quran’s intolerable tenet and the disastrous spread of Islamic Sharia.

The great Winston Churchill stated it best: “We must be united, we must be undaunted, we must be inflexible."

There are American Churchills today, but is America ready to elect them?
