Demography News on Jerusalem's Jewish Fertility

My Right Word

Found in the Maariv Jerusalem weekly supplement, Z'man Yerushalayim, October 12, 2011, p. 56:

Fertility Rate (data from Dr. Mata Hoshen, Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies)

Muslim women:

1999 - 4.2
2004 - 4.2
2010 - 3.9

Jewish women:

1999 - 3.8
2004 - 3.8
2010 - 4.3 Here:

In 2009 the fertility rate (the number of children a woman is likely to deliver in the course of her life) for the Jewish sector was slightly higher than that for the Arab sector, at 4.1 and 3.9, respectively. The fertility rate among Jewish women is showing a rising trend while that of their Arab counterparts is on the decline.

What a difference a year makes.

Now, that is interesting.

Comment: Policies are developed using multiple points of information. Demography is one such point. Accurate data is critical in order to input correct information into a policy development formula. To ignore accuracy in such data is to design a system that makes inappropriate decisions due to faulty data.
