Let's see if their actions align with their words

EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma’an) – Chiefs of clans in the Sinai Peninsula have decided to form a popular committee in northern Sinai to protect strategic facilities and public properties during planned protests on June 30, an official said Friday.

Abdul-Hamid Salami, chief of al-Fawakhiriya clan in el-Arish in northern Sinai, told Ma’an that clan dignitaries would hold an emergency meeting next Monday with army and police commanders.

The meeting will be dedicated to discussing popular and official suggestions to protect Sinai from an expected security chaos. “We have learned a good lesson from the previous experience during Jan. 25 revolution,” he added.

He added: “We will sacrifice our souls to protect all security facilities in Sinai, and will not allow Palestinians to infiltrate through smuggling tunnels seeking to support a certain party at the expense of the Egyptian people. We hereby warn in advance that the people of Sinai will defy any external elements and prevent them by force from destroying Sinai or reaching Cairo.”

Another senior tribal dignitary Said Atiq from Rafah said that “Sinai rebels and the public will organize a vehicular rally Saturday in el-Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid to send a message to any Palestinian elements who might seek to infiltrate into Sinai to the support the Muslim Brotherhood on June 30 as they did during the Jan. 25 revolution.”
