Iranian Supremo: Islamic world can become global power, West is "backward"

The unity of the umma is one of the primary goals of the jihadist movement in general. And once the umma is unified, there will be no legal barriers (from either a Sunni or a Shi'ite standpoint) to offensive jihad against the West. Today, you see, Islamic spokesmen often say that Osama et al have no legal authority to wage jihad. That is just a dodge, since no legal authority is needed to wage defensive jihad, which is the way Osama has presented his case to the Islamic world. But it is also noteworthy that Khamenei and Osama and so many others so desire to restore the unified authority that would allow for the waging of offensive jihad. Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who concluded his visit to Iran later in the day....

"The world of Islam can become a global power through unity and promotion of political, economic, cultural and scientific cooperation," stressed the supreme leader.

Criticizing Washington for using force against other countries, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "Submission to hegemony of world arrogance is the cause of their backwardness."...
