Iranian FM Confers with World Officials in Sharm El-Sheikh


TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki conferred with a number of world officials on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting in Egypt.

Mottaki who arrived in Egypt on Monday morning to attend the foreign ministers' meeting on July 13-14 and the 15th heads of state summit of the NAM on July 15-16 met with a number of counterparts and other heads of delegations. . The Iranian foreign minister met with heads of Syrian and North Korean delegations, as well as Egyptian, Omani, Lebanese, Belarusian and Sri Lankan foreign ministers and also Syrian deputy foreign minister on the sidelines of the first day of the meeting.

During the meetings, Mottaki explored avenues to expand bilateral relations as well as regional and international cooperation.

The necessity for using NAM's capacities for resolving international crises, including the current global economic crisis was among the other issues discussed in Mottaki's meetings.

Foreign ministers of the NAM member states on Monday started two-day discussions in Sharm el-Sheikh to prepare the ground for the summit of their leaders on Wednesday and Thursday.

At the meeting, Egypt will take over the presidency of the movement from Cuba.

Founded in 1955, NAM has 118 member states that represent 56 percent of the world population.
