Can We Finally Bury the Palestinian Fairy Tale?

Daniel Horowitz (Diary)

Nothing has illustrated the definition of insanity more than the cycle of propping up the Palestinian Authority under the the assumption that they are moderates, in the hopes of achieving peace.  Yesterday’s vote by the UN to recognize a Palestinian country on parts of Israel’s sovereign territory should be the final straw to end this craziness that has consumed our foreign policy for 20 years.

Over the years, we have given the PLO roughly $500 million annually and up to $1 billion on occasion (FY 2009).  Additionally, we contributed $267 million in FY 2009 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the organization that harbors Palestinian terrorists under the guise of humanitarian aid.  We are the largest bilateral donor to UNRWA.  If the Obama administration officials were left to their own devices, they would authorize hundreds of millions more in aid to the Palestinians.

The creation of a 22nd Arab state and 2nd Palestinian state (the first being Jordan) is absolutely inimical to our interests.  They will make the Taliban look like girl scouts and they will serve as the most effective proxy for Iran.  Obama’s puerile platitudes stating that Hamas must renounce terror are as fatuous as a declaration that Obama must renounce stimulus spending.  At present, any aid to the PLO is morally indefensible.  Any aid would only serve the purpose of bolstering their mission to turn sovereign Israeli territory into a Palestinian terror-tory.
The Hill is reporting that the outgoing House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, is calling for an end to all aid for the Palestinians the UN agencies that abet them:
“It’s crystal clear that Abu Mazen and his cronies are not partners for peace and do not value their relationship with the U.S.,” Ros-Lehtinen says in a prepared statement. “The U.S must stand with our ally Israel and offer no U.S. taxpayer dollars and no political support for the PLO. As other UN bodies will no doubt use General Assembly resolution as an excuse to grant membership to a non-existent Palestinian state, U.S. law is clear: UN agencies that grant membership to a Palestinian state lose their U.S. funding.”
It’s refreshing to finally see a top official with jurisdiction over foreign aid demanding an immediate end to terror aid.   Conservatives must stand with Ros-Lehtinen on this issue and finally put an end to the money for murder program.  We must say no to any terror aid during the next budget battle in March.
