1. Legal aspects
· Pursuant to the Interim Agreement signed by Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) and supported by the international community, the sea off the coast of Gaza is subject to Israeli naval control, and Israel is entrusted with responsibility regarding security in this area. In accordance with mutually accepted arrangements, the entry of foreign vessels into maritime areas off the coast of Gaza is barred.
· This protest action serves no humanitarian purpose. Effective procedures have been agreed between Israel and the PA for the delivery of aid through recognized inland crossing points and any international aid organization wishing to deliver aid can take advantage of these arrangements.
2. Political aspects
· This protest action is an intentional provocation undertaken by organizations and activists, some of whom have a long history of employing provocative tactics. While flying the banner of human rights, such groups are troublingly silent in the face of the gross human rights violations perpetrated by Hamas, and its dictatorial regime which has caused much suffering to Israelis and Palestinians alike. Actively seeking to grant legitimacy to the Hamas terrorist regime, such action flies in the face of the clearly stated position of the international community – namely, the three conditions of the Quartet.
· This provocation plays into the hands of Hamas, which is known throughout the world as a terrorist organization, and undermines the Palestinian Authority, which is currently involved in peace negotiations with Israel. The world has witnessed in recent days Hamas's brutality towards those who disagree with its policies in Gaza. The nearly 200 pro-PA Fatah members, who found asylum in Israel due to the Hamas repression and violence against them and their families, have revealed shocking stories of Hamas tactics of murder, torture and abuse.
· Indicative of the disingenuous nature of the protest is the fact that no protest is voiced against the firing of rockets from Gaza towards Israeli civilians or Hamas's use of civilians as human shields – actions which contradict basic norms of behavior as well as international law and harm the basic human rights of both Israelis and Palestinians.
3. Israel's humanitarian policy towards Gaza
· Despite ongoing Hamas terrorism and attacks on the humanitarian crossings, and the risks involved to Israeli personnel, Israel transfers large quantities of humanitarian aid to Gaza on a daily basis (last week over 4 million liters of diesel fuel and gasoline, unlimited cooking gas, and 549 trucks with 17,800 tons of food, medicines and building materials were delivered to the Gaza Strip via the inland crossing points). In addition, patients and accompanying family members are permitted to cross into Israel for medical treatment (290 in the last two weeks alone).
4. Israeli security policy vis-à-vis the Gaza Strip
· The Gaza Strip under the Hamas regime has become a terrorist entity. Hamas smuggles and manufactures arms in a military buildup that is continuing also during the current "state of calm", in violation of the understanding laid out in the Egyptian initiative which established the calm.
· The smuggling of arms and explosives in aid trucks and containers poses a clear and present threat to the safety of Israel's citizens and necessitates that all supplies designated for the Gaza Strip must pass through orderly inland crossing points where they can be checked thoroughly.
5. Background on the protest organizers
· The ISM (International Solidarity Movement) and the ICAHD (Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions) have for years been involved in denigrating Israel, presenting a distorted version of reality, while questioning or ignoring Israel’s inherent rights such as the right to self-defense and the right to protect the lives of its citizens.
· These are not humanitarian organizations, but rather extremist protest groups that specialize in provocation and violence, endangering the lives of Palestinians and foreign citizens alike. They, on occasion, have actively protected terrorists, as the ISM did when members involved themselves in the terrorist take-over of the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem in 2002.
6. Terminology
· Use the phrase “Israel is merely exercising its recognized authority” or “just doing its job” off the Gaza coast. (Don’t use "siege" or “blockage”)
· Use the terms "anarchists" and "agitators" (instead of “human rights” or “peace” activists)
· Use the terms "quiet" or "calm" or "lull" to describe the current situation in the south (instead of tahadiya or “ceasefire”)

Israel conveniently forgets to mention that it started with terrorist Irgun gangs from Begin and later Sharon, blew up the David hotel and chased the Palestinians from their land. Hamas was democratically elected and has the right to fight Israel as Israel is fighting them. For every Israeli killed, Israel killed 40 Palestinians, see the statistics. The children who are deaf from Israeli terror need hearing aids and more. This is a very distorted article, and belongs on the garbage dump.
Captain Zen,
Thank you for reading my blog and taking time to comment. Amazing tactic, overused and oft used, to shift the focus away from points presented. Not only shift but use worn out (factually incorrect by the way) data points. Please, you know as do most thoughtful people that having "elections" does not make a group democratic-and yes, I do know the "statistics"-by the way which ones are you using? all the best-doc
