Music above politics - Macy Gray on stage in Israel tonight

IsraeliGirl

What's music got to do with politics? American soul singer Macy Gray found out that you can easily abuse culture and turn art into hate. Luckily Gray didn't cave in to hate and tonight she will be performing in Tel Aviv.

But her road to Israel wasn't smooth. When she announced plans to perform in Israel at tonight's concert she was immediately flooded with request to boycott Israel and cancel the show.

In a frank move Gray chose to open the debate to the public on Facebook and Twitter and asked her fans what should she do - should she choose to cancel the show in Israel or move on as planned and ignore boycott calls. Despite intense pressure by the BDS movement (boycott, divestment and sanctions) Gray put music above all, and the power of music won. Gray chose to perform in Tel Aviv saying "I believe in the power of music. I believe that it brings people together, and offers magic and escape and laughter and the opportunity to feel good and dance."

Culture boycott does not advance peace in any way. Please thank Macy Gray for making the right decision - click here (Gray's Facebook page), click the "like" button and write a thank you note on her wall.

Let the music play...
