Brigadier General Motti Almoz Appointed IDF Spokesperson


In a ceremony held Monday, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Benjamin (Benny) Gantz appointed Brig. Gen. Motti Almoz, previously the head of the Civil Administration in the Judea and Samaria Region, as the new IDF Spokesperson.
Brig. Gen. Motti Almoz, to be IDF Spokesperson, is succeeding Brig. Gen. Yoav (Poli) Mordechai, who has completed two and half years in duty.

Outgoing IDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Mordechai said at the ceremony that “these two and a half years have been a very special journey. We worked rigorously to share what the IDF does – truthfully, fairly, and with equality. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit is more operationally focused than ever, and its representatives today are spread across all divisions. I was given a strong and professional division, I was devoted to it endlessly, and I hope it has emerged stronger.”

Incoming IDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Motti Almoz expressed his gratitude to Brig. Gen. Mordechai. “I am being given an extremely professional, impressive and values-based organization. I know from up close how hard you worked in order to achieve the results which you have achieved. On my behalf and on behalf of the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, I would like to thank you.”

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benjamin (Benny) Gantz said at the ceremony that Brig. Gen. Mordechai “filled the role of IDF Spokesperson with complete success. This is a role that requires intelligence and sensitivity, and you, Poli, you knew how to bring these features to the position, for the good of the IDF and those who serve it.”
Prior to his current appointment, Brig. Gen. Almoz served as the Head of the Civil Administration in the Judea and Samaria Region. He as also served as the Commander of the Operations Branch of the Central Command, and then its Chief of Staff, among many other positions.

The ceremony was held at the presence of the Minister of Defense, Mr. Moshe (Bogie) Ya’alon, The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benjamin (Benny) Gantz and members of the IDF General Staff.
