COP: Military Wife Pleads: Stay the Course! Don't Give In to the Democrat Shutdown

Kimberly Fletcher

Let's be honest: the Republicans didn't shut down the government.  There aren't enough Republicans in either house who have the guts to do it.

As a military wife, I am thrilled to see members of Congress having the courage to stand for the same principles my husband puts the uniform on every day to defend -- and I urge those congressmen to stay the course!  Don't give in to the Democrat shutdown.
My husband was one of those who received a letter from the president saying, "It's not you [causing the shutdown]; it's them."   Well, "them" is us!  We support the defunding of ObamaCare 100%, no matter the cost -- and there is a cost.

Our family recently returned to the continental U.S. from an overseas tour.  We are in the final stages of the loan process for a VA home loan, which has been stalled due to the shutdown.  My parents, who live with us, are on a very fixed income based mostly on Social Security benefits.  My son is employed full-time at a national park, which is now closed.  Tuesday the base commissary closed indefinitely, and there is a very good chance we will lose the low rate we locked in on our VA home loan if the shutdown continues.
Our family is just one of the families being personally hit by this shutdown -- and in spite of that, I am fervently pleading with Senators Cruz and Lee and those members of Congress standing with them to stay the course!  Yes, it pinches, and it pinches hard, but I would much rather be pinched than suffocated.  And that is exactly what ObamaCare would do.
For three years the American people have tried everything in their power to stop ObamaCare.  Then, just when all seemed lost and there was nothing left we could do, two senators -- a Democrat and a Republican -- stepped forward with an idea.
In spite of the president's claims that this is a partisan issue, the political parties have nothing to do with it.  This is simply a modern-day version of David and Goliath.  There are two parties in our government today -- the Government and the People.  "Republican" and "Democrat" mean very little anymore.  But there are a small group of conservatives in both parties who really are trying to do the right thing.  They ran for office not for a job or an expense account, but because, like my husband, they believe in America and what she stands for.  Those marginalized voices are in fact the voice of We the People, and they aren't the ones who shut down the government.  They are just the ones who stood up to it!
Mark Twain once said, "In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."
Those of you in Congress on the bandwagon now, I urge you to stay the course.  Don't give in to the Democrat government shutdown.  Defund ObamaCare, and I assure you, in the eyes of millions of Americans just like me, you will be heroes!
