Ismail Haniyeh, who heads the Hamas government in Gaza, celebrated the abduction of IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, on the two-year anniversary of his exchange for 1,027 jailed terrorists.

In a speech on the occasion of Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, Haniyeh called on Arabs to make pilgrimage to the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, and to “renew the intifada” in Judea and Samaria, in both its “popular” and armed versions.

He praised the terrorists who carried out recent attacks on Jews in Judea and Samaria, and called on the Arab and Islamic countries to prepare themselves for “the big Al Aqsa Intifada.”

Haniyeh expressed his strenuous opposition to the negotiations that the Palestinian Authority is conducting with Israel, and explained that they could undermine the Palestinians' “basic rights,” including Jerusalem, borders and “the return of refugees.”

He added that Palestinians must not be resettled in Arab countries or in Sinai, as part of a solution to the Palestinian problem. “Palestine was and is Palestine and it will have no substitute,” he declared.

“Intifada,” an Arabic term meaning “shaking off the yoke,” has been used to describe a violent uprising in 1987-1993 and a murderous terror war in 2000-2009 that killed 1,178 Israelis, 70% of them civilians, in over 20,000 attacks that included 144 suicide bombings.
