(IsraelNN.com) Attorney Yossi Fuchs, co-chair of the Land of Israel Legal Forum, filed a complaint against Hevron Police Commander Avshalom Peled and the regional IDF spokesman on Thursday for a false report issued earlier in the day. Fuchs said he suspects the two of deliberately spreading a false rumor according to which a Jewish activist had sprayed a police officer with acid and caused him serious injuries. The report of an officer badly wounded by acid was repeated by several media outlets. However, Fuchs said, a brief investigation revealed that none of the ambulance drivers called to Hevron or other medical officials had treated an officer for acid wounds.
Fuchs linked Thursday's false report to a similar false report that was widely disseminated during the expulsion of Jews from the Gaza town of Kfar Darom. During that expulsion, senior officers charged Jewish protesters with hurling acid onto soldiers, wounding several. The report was revealed to be false.
The false report from Kfar Darom was “part of an incitement campaign against pioneers who were pained by the expulsion from their forefathers' land,” Fuchs said. The two false reports were “a real 'blood libel,'” he said.
Fuchs called on the IDF and police to investigate Peled and others who may have spread the false rumor. Anyone who is found guilty should be fired immediately, he said.
