Palestinian Authority Jails Man for Making Sarcastic Comment About its President

Daniel Greenfield On February 15, 2013
That’s the Palestinian Authority whose president has decided to forgo elections, but has decided to lock people up for making mildly sarcastic comments about him.
This backward tyranny is funded by American taxpayer dollars sent to President Soccer Ball.
A Palestinian court on Thursday sentenced a West Bank man to a year in prison for “insulting” president Mahmud Abbas in a remark he posted on Facebook.
A court in the northern West Bank city of Nablus sent Anas Said Awad, 26, from the nearby village of Awarta, to jail over a caption he posted next to a picture of Abbas kicking a football saying “a new striker for Real Madrid.
His father said that the judge handed down the sentence without calling Anas into the courtroom, even though he was waiting elsewhere in the building.
The United States doesn’t just fund the Palestinian Authority, it has shelled out sizable amounts of money to build courts and provide legal training for the so-called Palestinian justice system. And this is what it’s used for.
