In George Orwell's "1984," "Doublethink" was the government's "conscious deception while retaining the firmness of purpose that goes with complete honesty."
Maybe Sebelius really believes it when she says "every economist will tell you" there is no "job loss related to the Affordable Care Act," that it is all "a popular myth."
Maybe Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf, with a bachelor's degree in economics from Princeton and a master's and doctorate in economics from Harvard, doesn't fit Sebelius' definition of an economist.
This month's CBO Economic Outlook shook Washington by warning that ObamaCare by 2021 will cause "a reduction in full-time-equivalent employment of about 2.3 million." Elmendorf testified to the House Budget Committee that labor force reduction associated with ObamaCare "is the central factor in slowing economic growth" and "the principal reason why we think the economic growth will be less than it was for most of my lifetime."
That the CBO says it comes from "a net decline in the amount of labor that workers choose to supply, rather than from a net drop in businesses' demand for labor" is splitting hairs. Jobs are jobs.
