HE Michael Oren, Next Israel's Prime Minister?

Nurit Greenger
When listening to Dr. Michael Oren, Israel Ambassador to the United States, you cannot help thinking fast forward and placing him in the shoes of the next Prime Minister of the State of Israel.

After all Mr. Oren has all the qualifications for the job. He was born in the United States where he was graduated from Columbia University and Princeton University. He moved to Israel because of his Zionistic education and Jewish values; for him immigrating to the Jewish state was the right thing for a Jews to do. He served in the Israeli Defense Forces and he speaks English like an American and Hebrew like an Israeli. Fully qualified human package to take Benjamin Netanyahu's place when he retires.
Last night, Mr. Oren, was a guest of Mr. David Segal, the Consul General of Israel in Los Angeles and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. To an overflowing house he delivered, in his most eloquent and mesmerizing manner, a speech at the Saban theater in Beverly Hills, California.

With people turned away for a lack of seating, there is no doubt that in the USA there is vibrant community in support for Israel, which is today at twenty years high. Representatives of 150 organizations and many state officials arrived to hear Mr. Oren.
The theme was the Bond, the Alliance Between the United States and Israel.
Presented by Richard Sandler, Chairman of the Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, there is no doubt that Mr. Oren "knows his stuff" very well; he floats back and forth speaking about American history, Israeli history and today's current events without reading one note. Mr. Oren is one man every Jew should be proud to say, "he is one of us."
Here is some of what I heard with my spicing.
The United States, past and present, has been and is tied to the State of Israel, he claims. Three personal experience scenarios affirm this claim:
Before his nomination to the Ambassador post, on Israel's 60th birthday he was invited to deliver a speech to the crew of the USS Truman aircraft carrier, that was on its duty in the Mediterranean Sea. The connection, Truman was the US president who voted 'YES,' approving Israel's independence declaration.
Mr. Oren was invited to Denver, Colorado to be present when Colorado passed a bill, approved by both houses, of its unequivocal love and support for Israel.
And, once, on a Sunday, he visited an African Baptist Church in downtown Cincinnati. When he entered the church all singing stopped and everyone in the church stood up in his honor.
The love for Israel is not a recent American history; it goes back to the early 17th century when the Puritans arrived to the east shores of the New Promised Land, the Holy land of the new world. They believed in the bible and named their towns and children after biblical names. They were the first to believe in 'restorationism,' the belief to help the Jews to restore life in their homeland, the ancient land of Israel. This opposed to what Barack Obama keeps on saying that Israel does not know what is good for her when she keeps on building in Judea and Samaria: 'A Disturbing New Report Reveals What Obama Might Be Saying About Israel Behind Closed Doors' - http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/01/15/disturbing-report-obama-allegedly-says-israel-doesnt-know-what-its-own-best-interests-are/.
A large number of Americans believe that Israel today is the proof that God did not renege on his promise to His children to gather them and return to the land He promised to them.
So what is that bond the American and Israeli nations have?
Both countries have a bill of rights that claims equality to all, irrespective of race, color, religion, gender, sexual tendency;
Both countries are based on same common spiritual values;
Both countries are built on common democratic values;
Nowadays, both countries have strong strategic alliance; and,
Nowadays, the financial connection between the two countries is inseparable. The United States and Israel are also deeply involved in the technology fields. One such project is the new rocket interceptor, Missile defense system, David's Sling, an upgrade of the Iron Dome, capable of stopping missiles within ranges of 300km.
Last but not least, when the West Point Military Academy choir and the IDF choir can sign together the state of Israel national anthem, Ha'tikvah, all is Kosher between the two nations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dEhrSAybRM
And the differences the two countries do have are shadowed by the many issues they agree on.
Israel is located in the unpredictable Middle East and no one can know what will happen in the region the following day but for the USA, Israel is a guaranteed ally.
To end the evening Steve Edwards, the American television personality on Los Angeles, California, morning shows, set with Mr. Oren and asked him a set of current events questions to which Mr. Oren replied in the most eloquent and diplomatic manner.
Some of the questions were about the conflict the Arabs have with Israel. Mr. Oren stated that Israel is the only one that can decide how to defend herself [from Iran]. And the Arabs are not willing to accept a state because if they do, that means that they accept a Jewish state.  And if the Arab world, especially the countries surrounding Israel, want to enter the 21st century they will have to end their malaise for once and for all.
Mr. Oren post as the Ambassador is to end soon. Leaving the hall you cannot help of thinking, did I just hear the next prime minister of Israel speak. Time will tell.
