Obama Reneged on Israel Support With Hagel Nomination‏

Regarding the nominations of Kerry, Hagel, and Brennan:
So many of us saw this side of Obama a long time ago and tried to warn people who care about the United States and Israel.   We remember, too, how he made the not-so-secret promise to Medvedev about being 'more flexible' after being re-elected for a second term.  This is not the transparency that was touted by the candidate Obama ; it is deception by someone who feels that he can do as he pleases now that he does not have to fight for another term.  Who knows what other discoveries of dishonesty will be revealed?

Tragically, at a time of great danger the leader of the free world has abdicated his responsibility to stand strong.  His promise to keep Iran from acquiring the bomb has also not been kept; Obama claims that his ideas mesh with those of Hagel and we know that the latter is even opposed to sanctions.  How different is Obama from Kennedy who faced the Cuban missile crisis with resolve and courage!

It is pitiful to see public figures like Ed Koch and Alan Dershowitz squirming as they admit that Obama has been dishonest in his attitude toward Israel.  While not destroying us himself he is laying the groundwork for others to act with that intent.

Israel is situated in a chaotic region, surrounded by several countries that were friendly to the West until their uprisings during the past couple of years.  The Obama administration encouraged the overthrow of dictators and talked about the desire for 'democracy' by those who were rioting.  The result was the opposite; the anti-West Muslim Brotherhood has become the ruler of those countries -with sharia - strict Islamic law.  As I have said many times, the West does not understand the 'language' of the Middle East; the Western concept of 'democracy' does not exist here.

We also remember Hillary Clinton's remark at the beginning of the regional upheaval; she was sure that Assad of Syria was a 'reformer'.  Consider now that he has killed more than 60,000 of his own people - brutal massacre - and the world sits and watches!!  Does this not bring fear into the hearts of Jews and others in the States who care about Israel? When will it be time to stand up to the White House with the demand that Israel's security and survival is linked to that of the United States and the rest of the free world?!  How can the administration encourage others to throw off their dictatorial rulers in the search for democracy yet allow an existent democratic country - a true ally - to be endangered as it is?!

We seem to be aware of some of the news that does not reach the general American media.  We know that it does not reach the public because we get the media here.  This week there were reports that members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are in the U.S.   Terrorist expert Steve Emerson (the Investigative Project on Terrorism) publicized a report that he and John Rossomondo researched for a year - examining the guest list of visitors to the White House.  Here is the link to the article which should be read by everyone.  It is not conjecture but fact.  Now you understand why we worry about the U.S. as well as ourselves.  That is precisely why the nominations of Kerry, Hagel, and Brennan are so worrisome and must not be confirmed.

Ed Koch: Obama Reneged on Israel Support With Hagel Nomination

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch believes President Barack Obama’s decision to nominate former Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense will damage relations between the United States and Israel, while emboldening Islamists, and amounts to reneging on support for the Jewish state.
Koch, a Democrat who has been one of Obama’s staunchest supporters, said he’d thought all along that Obama would “renege on what he conveyed on his support of Israel,” reports The Algemeiner.

However, Koch said, Hagel’s nomination means Obama is turning his back on Israel a little sooner than he thought he would.
“It’s very disappointing, I believe he will ultimately regret it,” Koch said, “It undoubtedly will reduce support for him in the Jewish community, but I don’t think he [the President] worries about that now that the election is over.”
Editor's Note: Should Kerry and Hagel Be Confirmed ?
Meanwhile, Koch said that since Congress supports Israel, members on both sides of the aisle will defend it against any actions the Defense Department might take deemed neagtive to the Jewish state — but still, the nomination will encourage Iran and other Islamists.
“I believe it will encourage the jihadists. They will say: ‘Ah, we are winning the battle. America is beginning to desert Israel,’” Koch said.
He said Democrats will have to join in with Republicans to reject Hagel, but he doesn’t think that will happen.
Koch said he doesn’t regret backing Obama, since “he was going to win,” and because Jewish people were going to vote for the incumbent president.
But the former mayor is very critical not only on Hagel’s positions on Israel, but also about the former senator’s statements about homosexuals, and he doesn’t believe Hagel regrets opposing an ambassador’s appointment over his sexual orientation.
However, Koch said he’s not accusing Hagel of being anti-Semitic.
“You can be hostile to Israel and not be anti-Semitic,” Koch said. “I don’t know where he stands on Jews, but I am not accusing him, I have no basis for that.”
