Obama’s Syrian rebels are using chemical weapons. via U.N. has testimony that Syrian rebels used sarin gas: investigator | Reuters.
(Reuters) – U.N. human rights
investigators have gathered testimony from casualties of Syria’s civil
war and medical staff indicating that rebel forces have used the nerve
agent sarin, one of the lead investigators said on Sunday.
The United Nations independent commission
of inquiry on Syria has not yet seen evidence of government forces
having used chemical weapons, which are banned under international law,
said commission member Carla Del Ponte.
“Our investigators have been in
neighboring countries interviewing victims, doctors and field hospitals
and, according to their report of last week which I have seen, there are
strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof of the
use of sarin gas, from the way the victims were treated,” Del Ponte said
in an interview with Swiss-Italian television.
“This was use on the part of the opposition, the rebels, not by the government authorities,” she added, speaking in Italian.
And the same U.S. politicians who want to disarm American citizens want to use American taxpayer money to arm jihadists, Democrat Menendez introduces bill in Senate to arm Syria opposition.
A top Senate Democrat nudged the Obama
administration to provide weapons to the Syrian opposition, introducing a
bill Monday that would explicitly allow the U.S. to provide arms,
military training and non-lethal aid to the rebels.
Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, chairman
of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, introduced the legislation on
the heels of U.S. intelligence claims that chemical weapons likely were
used in the country.
“The Assad regime has crossed a red line
that forces us to consider all options,” Menendez said in a written
statement. “The greatest humanitarian crisis in the world is unfolding
in and around Syria, and the U.S. must play a role in tipping the scales
toward opposition groups and working to build a free Syria.”
This is a step some lawmakers, like Sen.
John McCain, R-Ariz., have been urging the U.S. to take for months. But
amid claims that extremist elements have infiltrated parts of the
anti-Assad forces, any effort to arm the groups would come with inherent
risk that weapons could fall into the wrong hands.
Menendez’s office claimed his bill would
require any group receiving arms to go through a “thorough vetting
process.” Without getting into detail, his office said those groups
would have to “meet certain criteria on human-rights, terrorism, and
non-proliferation.”
The bill also would create a $250 million fund to assist the country
in a transition after the end of the Assad regime. The measure would
give the U.S. government the power to sanction any individual who sells
or transfers military equipment, weapons or oil to Assad.
Keep in mind that Menendez is the sick New Jersey Democrat whom media refused to investigate and for whom DHS delayed arrest of Sen. Menendez’s illegal alien sex offender intern for election. Nevertheless, Obama moving toward sending lethal arms to Syrian rebels. The GOP is delusional too:
U.S. lawmakers called Sunday on President
Barack Obama to provide intelligence and training to Syrian rebels
through Arab states to speed the fall of the regime of President Bashar
al-Assad.
Representative Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Intelligence
Committee, said such a combination should also aim to leave a
stabilizing force in place in Syria after Assad’s fall — without
committing U.S. ground forces.
Rogers, a Republican, said the situation
in Syria was “deteriorating by the day” with thousands of foreign
fighters flooding into the country on both sides of the civil war,
creating an unstable mix.
And flashback to this post: In 2010, Syrian Muslim appointed Sr Policy Advisor at DHS.
